Original Text

Baltimore Ravens tackle Eugene Monroe has suffered a knee injury that requires surgery and will sideline him for multiple weeks.

Luke Jones of WNST.net passed along the news from coach John Harbaugh:

Aditi Kinkhabwala of NFL.com added more information:

Monroe was brought over from the Jacksonville Jaguars last season and has started in 14 games during his time with the Ravens. The left tackle has been a staple on the line and protected Joe Flacco's blind side this season.

As for where the team goes from here, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com shared Harbaugh's plans for the position:

Flacco spoke about the injury and Hurst's ability to replace Monroe, per Jones and Jeff Zrebiec of The Baltimore Sun:

James Hurst is an undrafted rookie out of North Carolina who was a two-time first-team All-ACC player. He is a talented player but far from the veteran presence that Monroe brought to the line.

Hensley offered his own thoughts on the potential shake-up:

The Ravens are currently 2-1 following consecutive wins over the division-rival Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns. Heading into a tough matchup with the Carolina Panthers, they will need Hurst to step up and protect Flacco against a stout pass rush.

Monroe's loss will be a significant one for the Ravens with question marks already in the running game. If the team plans on winning the difficult AFC North, it will need strong line play despite Monroe missing time.
