McClure provided more insight from Smith:

"

"Because Roddy studies the game and understands how people are going to try to defend him,'' Smith said. "And he's been in this league for over 10 years. We've done it multiple times last season in terms of him not being able to get out on the practice field.

"He did work with our (athletic performance) people today and got good reports on where he was in terms of moving around. I feel confident, still, that he'll play on Sunday.''

Whiter Suffering from Ankle Injury

The team's official Twitter account reported the news:

Before last year, it appeared White was a rare iron man in a modern NFL that has become as riddled with injuries as ever. Having never missed a game, White sat out three regular-season contests in 2013 amid a down year in Atlanta.

To start the 2014 campaign, he already was forced to miss the team's Week 3, 56-14 blowout win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a hamstring injury. But that was probably best for White in the long run, as he's been able to excel as a critical contributor to the Falcons' playoff outlook.

Falcons Football Communications Coordinator Matt Haley highlighted how valuable White has been during his days in Atlanta:

Star quarterback Matt Ryan said before the season that White and Julio Jones could become the first tandem in NFL history to have 1,500 yards receiving in the same year, per Fox Sports' Alex Marvez:

"

I think it's possible, absolutely. When you look at what Roddy has done historically here, he’s always been consistent. I think everybody knows what he’s capable of doing. Julio has had three really good years when he has been healthy. Last year through five games, certainly he was on pace to do that. I'm lucky to have two of the best guys and the best tandem in the NFL. I think they’re both going to have big years.

"

Consistency has indeed been a theme throughout White's career in Atlanta, which began when he was selected No. 27 overall in the 2005 draft. He had six straight seasons of over 1,100 yards, with his career best coming in 2010 (1,389).
