Liverpool Defeat Middlesbrough 14-13 in Epic Penalty Shootout

Ryan BaileySep 23, 2014

Liverpool are through to the fourth round of the League Cup after a 2-2 regular-time draw and a dramatic 14-round penalty shootout.

The Reds were taken to extra time by Championship side Middlesbrough after Jordan Rossiter's debut goal was cancelled out by a set piece from the visitors.

In the 109th minute at Anfield, Suso latched on to a scrappy Mario Balotelli strike to put the Reds 2-1 ahead.

Boro's Jamal Blackman then followed suit:

The penalty extravaganza finally ended in the 15th round when Boro's Albert Adomah hit it wide to the right.

With just one more round of penalties, Liverpool or Boro might have held an English record.
