New Orleans Pelicans Unveil New Red Alternate Uniforms for 2014-15 Season

Kyle NewportSep 23, 2014

A season after changing their nickname as part of a huge makeover, the New Orleans Pelicans have added a new red alternate uniform to wear during the 2014-15 season.

According to ESPN.com's Paul Lukas, NBA teams aren't allowed to have alternate uniforms in their first year of existence. That means that when New Orleans changed their nickname from the "Hornets" to the "Pelicans," the team had to go with just home and road uniforms—no alternates.

The team unveiled the new look on Tuesday.

In order to properly show off the new uniforms, some of the players served as models for the unveiling.

The Pelicans will wear the alternate jerseys for four home games this upcoming season, including their season opener against the Orlando Magic on Oct. 28. The other three dates are listed in the team's official press release.

New Orleans' new red duds will be the only ones to have "Pelicans" written across the front.
