The strength of the New York Jets football team this season is their stout run defense, but that appeared to take a major hit Monday against the Chicago Bears. Seth Walder of New York Daily News provided an update on the health of Muhammad Wilkerson:
After the game, coach Rex Ryan commented on Wilkerson's injury via Kimberly Jones of NFL.com:
Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports provided more detail on the severity of Wilkerson's injury:
Wilkerson went down with his injury with less than four minutes remaining in New York’s Monday night contest. He was a thorn in Jay Cutler’s side all game and racked up five combined tackles and 1.5 sacks against the Chicago offense.

The Jets have a date with the high-flying attack of the Detroit Lions in Week 4, so they really need their strong defensive line to be intact for that contest. Otherwise, Reggie Bush, Matt Stafford and Calvin Johnson could put up big numbers on the Jets defense if Stafford has time to throw all game.
Wilkerson’s long-term health is critical for this Jets squad that entered Monday’s game as the top defense in the league against the run.
