Dolph Ziggler Defeats The Miz to Become New WWE Intercontinental Champion

Tim KeeneySep 22, 2014

Dolph Ziggler is the new Intercontinental champion. Again.

About 24 hours after losing his title at the Night of Champions pay-per-view, The Showoff took it right back on Raw, defeating The Miz.

He then took to Twitter to celebrate the victory:

Perhaps the WWE is just padding Ziggler's Intercontinental Championship stats. He won the title from The Miz at SummerSlam, lost it barely over a month later and now has it back again, giving him his third career reign overall.

The hot-potato-ing of the title is a little odd, but fans will be happy to see Ziggler with gold over his shoulder once again. A special talent inside the ring, the fan favorite consistently puts on enthralling matches, and many have long been clamoring for a push—making Sunday night's result especially disappointing.

This quickly reverses those complaints, though, and it will be interesting to see where the company takes things from here.

Monday night's title change was a nice surprise, but it would be best if the WWE didn't keep flip-flopping. Creative has had trouble establishing credibility for the IC Championship in the past, and as Bleacher Report's Graham Matthews argued, short reigns aren't going to fix that problem:

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review's Justin LaBar contended that it's time to move on from this feud completely:

A storyline with Ziggler and Bray Wyatt would certainly inject a considerable amount of energy into the intercontinental picture, but we'll just have to wait to see what develops on that front.

For now, all that matters is that Ziggler is once again a champion. And that's good for business.
