Steelers' Le'Veon Bell Records 4th-Longest Rush in Franchise History

Bleacher Report MilestonesSep 22, 2014

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell broke off an 81-yard run during Sunday's 37-19 win over the Carolina Panthers, marking the fourth-longest rush in franchise history, per ESPN Stats & Info.

With the Steelers leading 16-6 in the second quarter, Bell took a handoff up the middle from his own 7-yard line and rumbled all the way to the Carolina 11-yard line. Though he's gaining fame for his world-class jukes, the second-year running back didn't need any on the impressive play, as he slithered through a hole in the defense and then ran by the Carolina safeties.

Bell finished his night with 147 rushing yards on 21 carries, with backup running back LeGarrette Blount adding another 118 yards on his own 10 totes. The Steelers shockingly ran for 264 yards as a team, despite facing a stingy Carolina defense that allowed just 86.9 rushing yards per game last season.

According to ESPN Stats & Info, Bell's 81-yard scamper was the franchise's first 80-yard carry since 1970, when Frenchy Fuqua had an 85-yarder against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The ascending 22-year-old running back's previous career-long run of 43 yards came in a Week 13 loss to the Baltimore Ravens last season.

Now with an NFL-best 461 scrimmage yards through three games, Bell figures to break off some more big plays, thanks to his improved vision and elusiveness.
