Le'Veon Bell, LeGarrette Blount's Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 3

Matt FitzgeraldSep 21, 2014

Le'Veon Bell is the clear workhorse in the Pittsburgh Steelers backfield, while LeGarrette Blount has had a clear supporting role.

However, both backs enjoyed an exceptional evening in a 37-19 blowout of the Carolina Panthers, as they combined for 265 yards on 31 carries.

An 81-yard run really bolstered Bell's numbers, and a 50-yard scamper gave Blount some increased fantasy clout.

Rotoworld's Adam Levitan pointed out how Pro Football Focus measured no one in the NFL better than Bell through the first two games:

That's a small sample size, but Bell is clearly a No. 1 fantasy option, and proved it again on Sunday. He can catch the ball, and his lighter frame has allowed him to become even more elusive in the open field.

Blount has upside as a goal-line back due to his power, and he even got the first carry after Bell's big run deep in Carolina territory. Then he had an eight-yard jaunt to paydirt with 5:38 left in the game.

But unless Bell goes down with an injury, Blount can't be endorsed as a weekly fantasy play based on his current role.

Many of Blount's touches occurred when Sunday's game was already decided. He's a marginal flex option whose production will fluctuate, almost exclusively dependent upon red-zone carries.
