NFL Week 4 Picks: Early Predictions for Every Game

Brian MaziqueSep 22, 2014

Heading into Week 4 of the NFL season, there are just three unbeaten teams remaining in the league. This season doesn't have the feel of one that will feature one squad making a lengthy run at the 1972 Miami Dolphins' perfect regular and postseason.

Instead, there's a ton of parity, and thus it's hard to know just what to expect each week.

As of now, the Cincinnati Bengals, Arizona Cardinals and Philadelphia Eagles are the only unblemished teams. How many of the three will remain that way after Week 4?

Best Potential Games

Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears

You can pretty much throw the records out the window when these two storied rivals meet. In Week 4, the Bears and Packers will battle for the 187th time in the regular season.

The Bears own a 92-88-6 record against the Packers, but most of Chicago's winning took place decades ago. In fact, the Bears have only won four the last 15 games against their neighbors to the north.

This week's clash will carry a good amount of early-season weight. The Packers desperately need to avoid a 1-3 start. A loss would give them two defeats in the division after losing to the Detroit Lions in Week 3.

If the Bears lose on Monday night to the New York Jets, they will be in a similar predicament at 1-2. As Week 4 games go, it doesn't get more must-win than this for Green Bay—and possibly Chicago.

New York Giants at Washington

The Giants finally woke up in Week 3. Led by 176 yards on the ground from Rashad Jennings, a defense that produced three interceptions and improved ball control from Eli Manning, New York hammered the previously undefeated Houston Texans 30-17.

Against Washington, the Giants will be facing a much more explosive offense. With Kirk Cousins at quarterback, Washington has proven it can put points on the board.

It scored 34 points in defeat against the Eagles Sunday, and it lit up the Jacksonville Jaguars for 41 points in Week 2. This one could be fun.

Philadelphia Eagles at San Francisco 49ers

The Niners really need to win this game. Obviously, the assignment isn't an easy one, but in its second home game of the season, after blowing a lead against the Bears in Week 2, the Niners must avoid another loss this early in the season. The Niners dropped their Week 3 matchup with the Arizona Cardinals.

The NFC West is about as unforgiving as any division in the league, and both the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks have proven, four or more losses could relegate the Niners to a wild-card berth.

Even that might not be a lock with teams like the Panthers and Atlanta Falcons shining early. San Francisco can't afford to drop to 1-3.

The Eagles are looking to stay perfect, but the question will be: Can it find a way to run the ball effectively against a Niners rushing defense that is still ranked in the top 10?

This could be another pivotal game we look back on once playoff positioning is decided.
