Reggie Wayne, Hakeem Nicks' Updated Fantasy Outlook After TY Hilton's Injury

R. Cory SmithSep 21, 2014

Indianapolis Colts receivers Reggie Wayne and Hakeem Nicks came into the 2014 season looking to produce huge numbers. Following an injury for T.Y. Hilton, both will be asked to step up in his absence.

Mike Wells of ESPN noted the injury for Hilton during the team's Week 3 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars:

Wayne came into the season expected to be the No. 1 option, but has been overshadowed by other players thus far.

He has not put together outstanding statistics this season, but has still proven to be a reliable target. He hauled in nine receptions for 98 yards in the season opener, but still has no touchdowns on the young season.

Here's a look at the numbers for both receivers against Jacksonville:

But Wayne hasn't been the only struggling star receiver this season, as CBS Fantasy Football notes:

Hakeem Nicks4501

For the record, Andy Dalton has one receiving touchdown, which came from Mohamed Sanu in Week 3.

Nicks, on the other hand, has been spotty at best this year. The former New York Giants receiver gave fantasy owners reason for optimism with a Week 1 touchdown, but hasn't produced consistently. He has six receptions this season for 32 yards, without a catch in Week 3.

But that all changed when Nicks hauled in a pass for a touchdown against the Jaguars. Mike Chappell of RTV6 notes just how rare the touchdown is for Nicks:

Both players now look worthy of a spot with the way Andrew Luck is sharing the wealth. Wayne is the veteran, but each player looks like a great option in the passing game for Luck moving forward.

Next week, the Colts face a porous Tennessee Titans defense that looks ripe for being picked apart by Luck again. Expect Wayne to be the recipient of double-digit fantasy points and Nicks to have another productive week if Hilton misses extended time.
