Baltimore Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta suffered a hip injury and was carted off during the team's Week 3 matchup against the Cleveland Browns.

The Ravens' official Twitter account noted the injury after Pitta left the field:

Pitta was later taken to a local hospital for more evaluation (via the Ravens):

Following the game, John Harbaugh spoke about his injured tight end (via the Ravens):

Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun reported on if Pitta would make the team flight back to Baltimore:

Wilson reported on the early fears surrounding Pitta's injury:

"

After an initial diagnosis that revealed no fracture, source said it's now feared that Pitta does have a fracture in his right hip. If that's the case, Pitta would need to undergo surgery and could be out for the season.

Pitta was transported to the hospital for X-rays and further examination. He also is expected to undergo a magnetic resonance imaging exam to determine if there’s any ligament damage.

"

Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com provides a look at what happened during the play:

Will Carroll of Bleacher Report weighed in on Pitta's injury:

Pitta has collected 16 receptions for 125 yards on the season, including Sunday's performance. The tight end played in just four games last season due to the aforementioned previous hip injury.

Wilson passed along more background on the previous injury:

Thanks to having a backup tight end like Owen Daniels, the team has depth at the position. Daniels hauled in five catches for 28 yards and two touchdowns in the team's Week 2 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Outside of Daniels, the Ravens also have a good receiving corps headlined by Torrey Smith and Steve Smith. If Pitta is forced to miss time, the passing offense should still have enough pieces to thrive moving forward.
