Original Text
San Diego Chargers running back Danny Woodhead suffered a right ankle injury during the first quarter of his team's Week 3 matchup with the Buffalo Bills.
Eric Williams of ESPN reported the news:
Michael Gehlken of U-T San Diego noted the severity of the injury:
Alex Marvez of Fox Sports later reported more on Woodhead's setback:
Following the game, Mike McCoy updated Woodhead's status, via Gehlken:
Woodhead has just 15 attempts for 38 yards along with five receptions for 34 yards and no touchdowns on the season.
The veteran running back was expected to help Donald Brown in the ground game with Ryan Mathews out four to five weeks with a sprained MCL. Unfortunately for San Diego, now the team will have to rely on Brown and undrafted rookie Branden Oliver to carry the load.
If Woodhead is forced to miss time, there will be more pressure on the passing game to perform. Thanks to weapons like Philip Rivers, Keenan Allen and Antonio Gates, the offense should still have plenty of firepower.
