Tampa Bay Buccaneers Center Snaps Ball into His Butt, Coins the 'Butt Snap'

Dan CarsonSep 19, 2014

There are bad losses, and there is what happened to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night, which was less a resounding defeat than a gross monument to the possibilities of football in its lowest form.

The Bucs fumbled and then fumbled again. They recovered fumbles, which they also fumbled. Their defensive line failed to pressure Matt Ryan, and their secondary allowed the quarterback to do things to them that would've counted as legal adoption in other countries.

Nothing went right for Lovie Smith's struggling crew in its 56-14 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, least of all for center Evan Dietrich-Smith, who seemingly forgot how to snap the ball. He kicked things off with a soaring snap over Josh McCown's head and followed it up with a direct tuck into his butt.

SB Nation's Brian Floyd brings us a Vine of the occasion, wherein Dietrich-Smith received orders to snap the ball and promptly crammed the oblong object into his posterior.

Bad snaps happen, but it's a rare day indeed when a center fails to realize his quarterback is standing several yards back in the shotgun formation.

On any other day, Dietrich-Smith's cheek-rippling "butt snap" would've been the summarizing moment of a terrible night on the gridiron.

Alas, that distinction goes to Mark Barron's "fumble-fumble."

When it rains on Tampa Bay, it pours—hard.

Unfortunately for the Bucs, this doesn't appear to be a Floridian storm. It will not be over in 15 minutes.
