Barcelona Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of September 22

Jason PettigroveSep 21, 2014

Still sitting proudly atop La Liga, Barcelona have enjoyed a dream start to the campaign with almost every detail falling into place.

Luis Enrique has had the luxury of being able to rotate his staff without weakening the first XI, and almost everyone appears happy.

Rumours still abound on the futures of one or two players at the club, though.

Let's take a look at Barca's transfer rumours from the last couple of days, and remember to keep checking back throughout the week for updates.

—Last update: Friday, September 26—

Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi could've ended up in London.

If things were different, Lionel Messi could've been a Chelsea player by now. After a fairly indifferent season by his own standards, Messi's unhappiness with the club was well documented.

Alex Harris of the Daily Express notes that Jose Mourinho instructed Roman Abramovich to hire the Argentine and a world record €150 million bid was submitted in the summer.

The cheeky attempt to prise Barca's talisman to west London was rebuffed by both the Catalans and Messi himself thankfully.

Gerard Pique

Gerard Pique could sensationally be heading back to the Premier League in January.

According to AS via Anthony Chapman of the Daily Express, Louis van Gaal is preparing to take the player back to Old Trafford.

Pique has failed to impress new boss Luis Enrique significantly enough to command a starting place, and should his tenure on the bench continue, a move back to the club he left in 2008 to join Barca is a distinct possibility.

Manchester United's need for a centre-back is obvious, and Pique most certainly fits the bill.

Munir El-Haddadi

Barcelona really are going to have to move heaven and earth to stop the vultures prizing starlet Munir El-Haddadi away from Camp Nou.

Per German outlet Sport Bild (h/t Renato Goncalves of Barca Blaugranes), Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have now thrown their hats into the ring to acquire the services of the youngster in January.

With his buyout clause still to be raised, the Catalans are living dangerously at this point.

Victor Valdes will sign for Liverpool.

Former Barca man and current free agent Victor Valdes is likely to sign for Liverpool next month if he can prove his fitness.

Nick Lustig of the Daily Star notes that Brendan Rodgers remains keen on a deal to bring the Spaniard to Merseyside with a view to providing competition to Simon Mignolet.

After months out with a cruciate ligament injury, Valdes will need to undergo an extensive medical before the free transfer is confirmed.

Pedro Rodriguez

Pedro could be on the way to Italy.

The rumours surrounding Pedro Rodriguez's future continue to gather pace.

With Luis Suarez soon to return, the odds are that Pedro will revert to the "bit-part" role that he played last season.

To that end, Anthony Chapman of the Daily Express is reporting that Juventus is the player's preferred destination after the Italians showed an interest in taking the Spanish international.

That would disappoint both Arsenal and Liverpool, who are both said to be keen.
