Josh Reddick Injury: Updates on Athletics Star's Ankle and Return

The Oakland Athletics are tied for the top American League Wild Card spot, but they might be without one of their top players. Outfielder Josh Reddick suffered an ankle injury that will sideline him for at least one game.

Reddick is batting .246 this season with 11 home runs and 46 RBI on the season. Those numbers have taken a hit in September, with his average sitting at .205 with just one homer and six RBI to go along with a .289 on-base percentage.  

The 2014 season has already been marred with injuries for Reddick, with a recent stint on the disabled list due to a previous knee injury. Reddick spoke about his injuries following his return, per John Hickey of the San Jose Mercury News:

If I had to do that, I'd have knee surgery, which is something I'd rather not have to do. But the idea is that rest this offseason should be enough to get the knee good. And next year, I can wear a neoprene sleeve on the knee if I have to.

I've worn them for a long time. They're easy to deal with.

"

Reddick has shown that he can be a great player for the A's, but his health has to be of the utmost importance. His production on the field is at times great, but not at the cost of further endangering him.

Oakland is 3-7 in its last 10 games, barely holding onto a postseason spot at 83-68. With the Seattle Mariners just two games behind, not having Reddick might be a crucial blow to their playoff hopes.

The team is making a push to enter the playoffs despite losing out on a chance to win the AL West. He plays an important role, so it might come down to the rest of the lineup to step up for the offense as a whole.
