10 Dramatic Sports Events Twitter Had Fun With
For most people, the likelihood you're going to make someone laugh is inversely proportional to the number of words used—it's not always the case, of course, but brevity is a pretty good indicator of a joke's strength as well as your ability to deliver it.
So it makes sense that Twitter and comedy are a natural, if not always successful, fit.
One thing that is assured with Twitter is that there'll be no shortage of running commentary about something that happened in front of a mass audience. This means that any "butt-fumble," inadvertent "pantsing," or otherwise amusing happening during a major sporting event will become a trending topic on Twitter.
And if the internet has taught us anything, it's that everyone is a comedian. What makes Twitter awesome for those of us who want to see, or share, the hits without spending too much time on the misses? Hashtags—which gives us the ability to compile all the attempts at cleverness and track down the home runs.
Here are a few home runs and a few other solid triples.
Durant’s Mom Puts the “M” in MVP
In May, Thunder superstar Kevin Durant won his first MVP award, endearing himself to every mother on the planet in the process. KD broke down in tears during his emotional acceptance speech, in which he thanked everyone…ever…but especially his mother. “You the real MVP.”

Johnny’s Drama
Going into the 2014 NFL Draft, speculation about the stock of (former) Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel was running wild.
Nobody seemed quite sure where Johnny Football would land, but as each team passed on him, the disappointment on his face seemed to grow. And as his perceived frustration grew, the chorus of people mocking him on Twitter did too.

Rose’s Recovery
Bulls superstar point guard Derrick Rose tore his ACL during the 2012 NBA playoffs, devastating a Chicago fan base that finally thought they were contenders again. He was out for what seemed like an eternity before returning in November 2013.
Rose was back for all of about four seconds before going down with another season-ending knee injury. Occasionally fan frustration manifested itself in interesting ways.

Wes’ Wild Ride
Prior to the start of the NFL season, Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker received a four-game suspension (which has since been reduced, and Welker reinstated) for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
Although he denied it, the positive test was initially reported to have been caused by MDMA (aka "Molly") taken at the Kentucky Derby. True or not, Twitterers ran with it.

Limping LeBron
In Game 1 of the 2014 NBA Finals rematch between the Heat and the Spurs, superstar LeBron James succumbed to brutal cramps after playing much of the game in temperatures that topped 90 degrees, courtesy of malfunctioned air conditioning in San Antonio.
Though people were ridiculously dismissive about James’ condition, the meme that was born from it was actually pretty funny. #LeBroning is kinda like #Tebowing, but much meaner.

Knowshon’s Emoshons
Prior to a game in December 2013, (former) Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno was seen shedding a few tears on the sideline during the national anthem.
Of course, “shedding a few tears” is probably the understatement of the century. Moreno’s tear ducts must be spring-loaded for Patriotism because those things were on another level!

Howard’s Heroics
Never has an athlete come out looking better after a loss than Team USA goalkeeper Tim Howard after losing to Belgium 2-1 and getting knocked out of the World Cup. Howard’s 16 saves were the most by a goalkeeper in a World Cup game since 1966. And thus a meme was born.

Lance’s Antics
The Heat emerged victorious from the 2014 Eastern Conference Finals, while (former) Pacers shooting guard Lance Stephenson emerged with the MVC award—Most Valuable Clown.
In Game 4 Stephenson took creeping to a whole new level when he blew into the ear of LeBron James, and in Game 5 he took diving to a whole new level with a flop so over-the-top dramatic that it cost him $10,000. Both incidents were #GameChangers, but not in the good way—in the sarcastic internet way.

Jameis For Shame(is)
Last April Jameis Winston, the Heisman winning quarterback of the defending national championship Florida State Seminoles, sauntered into a Tallahassee area Publix and attempted to saunter out with some crab legs that he opted not to pay for. Naturally, Twitter had a very big laugh at his expense.
Unfortunately for Winston, there’s probably nothing he could ever do on the field that would define him more in the public’s eye than his crab legs thievery and other unpleasant brushes with the law.
