Mumbai Indians were sent crashing out of the Champions League after a six-wicket defeat to the Northern Knights in Raipur.

Having been put in to bat at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Mumbai could only make 132-9 in their 20 overs.

The HRV Cup winners polished off the target in just 17.2 overs to record their third successive victory in the qualifying group.

Lahore Lions go through in second place at the expense of the Indians who finished fourth in the Indian Premier League.

Tim Southee and Scott Styris took three wickets apiece as Mumbai's big hitters failed to fire.

Captain Kieron Pollard top-scored with 31, but they lost wickets at regular intervals with the highest partnership only 29.

Districts never looked in trouble as Anton Devcich and Kane Williamson put on 83 for the opening wicket.

Williamson hit seven boundaries and a six in his 36-ball 53 before veteran Styris hit the winning runs.

They join Perth Scorchers, Hobart Hurricanes, Dolphins, Cape Cobras, Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings XI Punjab, Chennai Super Kings and Barbados Tridents in the main group stage which starts on Wednesday.

The top two in each five-team group will qualify for the semi-finals at the start of October.
