Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 The Fan, via CBS Cleveland, reports Gordon "received 12 months unsupervised probation in lieu of a 60-day jail sentence which was waived." Ruiter adds that Gordon has to pay $290 in court costs.
Per ESPN.com, the DWI charge stems from a July incident in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Baylor product was pulled over for speeding and registered a blood-alcohol reading of .09, which is above North Carolina's legal threshold of .08.
Gordon is currently serving a season-long NFL suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. With a new drug policy reportedly on the horizon, however, Gordon's suspension is expected to be reduced.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Gordon may be eligible to return to action after fulfilling a 10-game ban:
Pro Football Talk reported on any potential league discipline for the plea:
Per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Gordon told his boss at Sarchione Auto Group, Jeff Sarchione, that he believes a return to the NFL in 2014 is very much on the table.
"He thinks there's a good possibility," Sarchione said. "He's excited about it."
Even if Gordon is reinstated eventually, it is unclear how the DWI situation will impact his status. His suspension had nothing to do with the DWI, but it will be interesting to see if the NFL will take some type of action as it relates to that transgression.
There is still a great deal of uncertainty regarding the impending drug policy, so Gordon and the Browns will have to take a wait-and-see approach.
Gordon's situation is already a complex one, and this guilty plea adds yet another layer to it.
