TNA Impact Wrestling: No Surrender Preview, Rumors, News and More for Sept. 17

Donald WoodSep 16, 2014

With another exciting edition of Impact Wrestling from the Manhattan Center in New York City in the books, TNA returns to the historic building for this Wednesday’s edition of the No Surrender pay-per-view free on television.

An event this big needs two main events, and the company didn’t fail to fulfill the expectations. Bobby Lashley will take on Bobby Roode for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship in the main event, and The Wolves, The Hardys and Team 3D will go to battle in the third round of the Tag Team Championship tournament in the co-main event. The stipulation for the tag team bout is a Ladder match.

Add in Samoa Joe defending the X Division Championship against Homicide, a Knockouts Battle Royal to decide a No. 1 contender and several other matches, and this is must-watch television.

Here is the full preview for Wednesday's episode of Impact Wrestling.

Where: Manhattan Center, New York City

When: Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 9 p.m. ET (pre-taped)

Watch: Spike TV

Bobby Lashley vs. Bobby Roode and the Tag Team Championship Series

After beating Eric Young to become the new No. 1 contender for the TNA world title, Bobby Roode will get his shot at Bobby Lashley and the company’s top championship on Wednesday’s special episode of Impact Wrestling.

Many fans were hoping that Roode would be the long-term No. 1 contender and get his title shot at Bound for Glory, but the match that's bet set up for No Surrender hasn’t had the proper build to be worthy of a title change. As much as Roode should be the one to take the title off Lashley, that likely won't be the case here.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Which Main Event Steals the Show?

Roode is one of the best in-ring performers in the wrestling business today and will carry Lashley to a memorable main event. The problem for many fans will come if Roode takes the loss and nullifies the top-notch performance with a poor booking decision.

If Lashley retains the title, the tag team tournament will steal the show.

Team 3D won the first round of the tournament, and The Hardys won the second round. Matt and Jeff chose a Ladder match stipulation for Wednesday, and The Wolves must win to keep their hopes of retaining their titles alive. This match may be the co-main event, but it will feature the most memorable moments of No Surrender.

Hype Meter: 4 out of 5 Stacked Wednesday Cards

TNA has gone all-in on No Surrender this year. With two main events worthy of a PPV stage and an undercard to support it, this is the type of show that causal wrestling fans can watch and instantly enjoy. This will be Impact Wrestling at its best.

The build for October’s Bound for Glory will be in full swing at this event as well. If Roode does end up taking the loss against Lashley, TNA fans should be on the lookout for the next possible opponent for The Destroyer. Don’t be surprised if MVP eventually turns on Lashley and takes the title.

X Division Championship, Knockout’s No. 1 Contender and More

In yet another match with championship implications, Samoa Joe will defend his X Division Championship against Homicide. These two men are very familiar with each other from their time in TNA and on the independent scene, and the results in the ring should be worthy of the No Surrender stage.

Unfortunately, there is no story behind this match. The entire division has been in the same pattern for the last several weeks. While producing the same matches over and over again creates amazing spots with all of the talented performers in the ring, there is no angle to gravitate toward and few outside-the-ring vignettes.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Will Havok Win the Knockout’s No. 1 Contender Battle Royal?

She better win! After making her debut by beating down champion Gail Kim and everyone who stood in her way, Havok should be treated like a top star. Instead of allowing the other women to gang up on her, Havok should dominate this match and eliminate almost every woman from the bout.

Kim is already regarded one of the greatest women’s wrestlers of all time, but a viable threat like Havok could reinvigorate the Knockout’s division. As good as the other female wrestlers have been, nothing in mainstream wrestling today can compare to Kim vs. Havok.

Hype Meter: 4 out of 5 Undercard Matches Worth Noting

As if the card for No Surrender wasn’t stacked enough, TNA booked two more matches that should add even more intrigue. With Bram taking on Gunner in what should be a violent bout and Chris Melendez going head-to-head with Kenny King, this is an episode of Impact Wrestling fans can’t afford to miss.

For all of the criticism levied against TNA over the years, the company continues to put on excellent shows based on in-ring storytelling and elite wrestling. For many fans who have grown tired of the WWE product at times, No Surrender will make you remember why you love wrestling.
