10 Transfers No-One Is Talking About from 2014 Summer Window

Allan JiangSep 15, 2014

Here are 10 transfers which slipped under the radar during the kerfuffle of the 2014 summer transfer window.

The transfers will be subjectively ranked on how underrated the transfer was and the player's quality.ย

Here are the key points to make the list:

  • Transfer CANNOT be a loan.
  • Transfer needs to have been underreported.

Honourable Mentions

10. Miguel Angel Moya

1 of 10

Getafe to Atletico Madrid:ย โ‚ฌ3/ยฃ2.4 million

The reason why most people did not pay attention toย Atleti signingย Miguel Angel Moya, 30, was that the Spaniard being pencilled in as a backup.ย

He lacked the CV to replaceย Thibaut Courtois, a world-class goalkeeper who spent three seasons on loan from Chelsea.

Onceย Atleti madeย Jan Oblak the most expensive goalkeeper in La Liga history (โ‚ฌ16/ยฃ12.8 million),ย Moya was an afterthought.ย

Moya is nowย Atleti's No. 1 and his elite saves, specifically in a 2-1 win over Real Madrid, will keepย Oblak on the sidelines.

9. Lindsay Rose

2 of 10

Valenciennes to Lyon: โ‚ฌ1.5/ยฃ1.2 million

Bakary Kone, Lindsay Rose and Samuel Umtiti are all competing for the two centre-back positions.

None of them are bona fide starters which was evident when defensive midfielderย Maxime Gonalons slotted in at centre-back inย Lyon's 2-1 defeat toย Metz.

Rose, 22, has so much promise yet so little fanfare.ย

The Frenchman is an elegant passer from the back, he doesn't seem to be rushed and is constantly improving.

8. Kevin Vogt

3 of 10

Augsburg to Koln: โ‚ฌ1.8/ยฃ1.4 millionย ย ย ย ย ย ย

Kevin Vogt, 22, is an underrated German footballer who can emulateย Christoph Kramer's success.ย

Last November,ย Kramer was relatively obscure but had shown immense promise.

Nine months later, he had aย bittersweetย FIFA World Cup final and has the talent to be the future of Germany's midfield.ย

Vogt, 6'4" and 187 pounds,ย provides a big physical presence and is technically excellent.ย

He can charge past opposing players and launch counter-attacks.ย

A red flag onย Vogt is his injury record, which has hindered him from making substantial strides in his career.

7. Eric Dier

4 of 10

Sporting Lisbon to Tottenham Hotspur: โ‚ฌ5/ยฃ4 million

Eric Dier, 20, is second (4.3) toย Nathaniel Clyne (4.5) in highest tackles per game for English footballers only in the Premier League this season.ย

Dier can play centre-back and right-back.

Another advantageย he has over his fellow Englishmen is that he has played overseas inย Sporting, so hisย adaptability and mental toughness is higher.

Sporting were seething about his departure because they viewed him as a cash cow and he left at a cut price, perย Ian Parkes at The Telegraph.

Importantly forย Dier, he has arrived in a beneficial situation at Spurs, unlike formerย Sporting talent Joseph Enakarhire.

He chased the money inย Dynamo Moscow, was left discontented, and his career never recovered.

6. Jeremy Menez

5 of 10

Paris Saint-Germain to AC Milan: Free Transfer.

Jeremyย Menez, 27, so far has lived up to his promise.

"Mr [Filippo] Inzaghi is in charge for next season and he has a big will to win with Milan,"ย Menez said, per Sky Sports. "To supporters I assure you I'll give everything on the pitch."

Menez has had attitude issues,ย disciplinaryย problems and productivity that neverย justified the distraction he brought to the dressing room.ย

As every year passed, the less leeway the Frenchman was afforded.

Right now for Milan, he seems to be finally realising his potential.ย

He was outstanding in Milan's 3-1 win overย Lazio and played probably the greatest game of his career in a 5-4 win over Parma.ย

He is scoring goals (three in two Serie A games), is taking the ball past players and is creating his own shots.

In league play, he has a three-goal advantage overย Mario Balotelli, who has yet to score forย Liverpool in the Premier League.

Milan are once again thanking theย Bosman ruling.

5. Roman Burki

6 of 10

Grasshopper Club Zurich to Freiburg:ย โ‚ฌ1.8/ยฃ1.4 millionย

Roman Burki, 23, hasย eye-opening traits.

The Swiss footballer is of prototypical goalkeeping height (6'2"), hasย lightning-quick reflexes and is a passing outlet from the back (averages 50 passes per game).ย

He possesses the upside to develop into an elite goalkeeper.

4. Mauro Zarate

7 of 10

Velez Sarsfield to West Ham United: Free Transfer

The career of Mauro Zarate, 27, isย Dani-like.ย

Dani, a highly-rated Portuguese youth international, never reached the heights he was expected to scale.

The same can be said aboutย Zarate, who scored Argentina's winning goal against theย Czech Republic at the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup.ย

Going back to boyhood clubย Velez Sarsfield meantย Zarate went mainly undetected when he signed for West Ham.ย

Zarate is technically flawless, he has vision, and he can develop a lethal combination withย Enner Valencia at West Ham.

Valencia will offer pace and directness whileย Zarate has guile and can unlock opposing defences with a key pass.

3. Abdul Rahman Baba

8 of 10

Greuther Furth to Augsburg: โ‚ฌ2.5/ยฃ2 million

Abdul Rahman Baba, 20, is on course for a breakout season.

Theย Ghanaian has raced out of the blocks, completing 13 tackles and intercepting 12 passes in his opening threeย Bundesliga games.ย

He will be toย Augsburg whatย Ricardo Rodriguez is toย Wolfsburg.

Babaย completelyย dominates the left flank with his defensive productivity and his raiding runs.ย

2. Kingsley Coman

9 of 10

Paris Saint-Germain to Juventus: Free Transfer

Kingsley Coman, 18, is so talented that it was bizarreย Paris Saint-Germain could not convince him to extend his contract.

It shows you how disillusioned the Frenchman was at PSG.

"I think at Paris Saint-Germain, the young players are shoved to one side a little,"ย Coman said, per CanalPlus (h/t Ben Gladwell at ESPN FC).

"I never imagined I would be welcomed the way I have been [at Juve], considering I'm not a big name."

1. Andre Hahn

10 of 10

Augsburg to Borussia Monchengladbach: โ‚ฌ2.25/ยฃ1.78 million

It is unfortunate that Andre Hahn, 24, does not receive the recognition he deserves.ย

If the German was as hyped as English footballers are, he would be commanding a big-money salary.

But theย Bundesliga's inability to market itselfย Kim Kardashian-style like the Premier League is why a complete footballer likeย Hahn is still a no-namer to casual footballing fans.ย

Hahn is a winger who averages 6.3 headers won per game.

He is arguably one of the quickest players in the world.

Oh and he is a scoring threat: 12 league goals forย Augsburg last season and he recently scored a brace in Gladbach's ย 4-1 win overย Schalke.
