Bleacher Report MilestonesSep 15, 2014

The Washington Redskins had 10 sacks in Sunday's 41-10 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, matching a single-game franchise record, per the team's official twitter account.

The leading contributor was linebacker Ryan Kerrigan, who matched the franchise's individual record with four sacks, according to the Redskins' official website.

Linebacker Perry Riley and defensive end Jason Hatcher each had 1.5 sacks, with linebacker Brian Orakpo (one), defensive tackle Frank Kearse (one), safety Ryan Clark (0.5) and linebacker Perry Robinson (0.5) also chipping in.

Jaguars quarterback Chad Henne, who completed just 14 of his 28 pass attempts for 193 yards, became the first quarterback to take double-digit sacks in one game since former New York Jet Greg McElroy took 11 in Week 16 of the 2012 season against the San Diego Chargers, per ESPN Stats & Info.

The Redskins' only other 10-sack game came in a 10-0 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Oct. 9, 1977, per pro-football-reference.com's play index. One year removed from their inaugural 0-14 season, the Bucs had the same number of sacks taken and completed passes in an ugly loss that contributed to a 2-12 record. The Redskins, meanwhile, finished fifth in a 28-team NFL with 45 sacks that season, but they missed the playoffs at 9-5 on a tiebreaker.

The records on sacks are notoriously tricky, because while prior information can be found on pro-football-reference.com, the NFL didn't start counting sacks as an official statistic until 1982.

According to pro-football-reference's play index, there have been 68 instances of a team recording 10 or more sacks since 1950, with 31 of those coming since 1982, and just seven in the 21st century.

The single-game sack record of 14 was set by the Philadelphia Eagles against the New York Giants in 1952, while second place is a seven-way tie at 12, including three instances since 1982.

Counting each of the 68 instances listed on pro-football-reference's play index, the teams that piled up double-digit sack games combined for a 62-5-1 record in those contests.

In one of the more unusual box scores you'll ever see, The 1952 Dallas Texans were credited with 11 sacks in a 48-21 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
