If Karl Stays One Thing HAS To Change

Garrett OlsenJul 17, 2009

There are reports out that George Karl is close to signing a contract extension with the Denver Nuggets and could have it before the season starts according to Travis Heath of hoopsworld.

This decision will leave many Nugget fans with a queazy feeling in their stomach due to the interesting coaching style, schemes and rotations Karl seems to put together. Some nights it seems like Karl picked random names out of a hat and put them on his line up sheet for 10 minutes left in the 4th quarter.

I must admit a coach with 900 wins must have some kind of idea what he's doing, but the fact that big George's right pointer finger is as tan and plump as a mega Rockie dog from Coors Field does say one thing.

No rings.

There are many things Karl has to change in order for Denver to make a run at playing in the Finals such as his laziness and schemes. Even his rotations of AC and Billups together and the matchups he puts AC on that make about as much sense as Delonte West's quote on Jim Rome, "Plains, trains and automobiles...better bring my doughnuts."

What? Huh? Yea, that's about as much sense as GK's lineups.

With all that said the one thing that really has to change is Karl's say in what the front office is doing. Karl should not be allowed to have any say on if AC should come back or not. Karl should not have any say on if Linas Kleisa should be traded for Ron Artest or David Lee.

The Denver Nuggets not only came very close to landing Ron Artest at the deadline that Karl vetoed two years ago for LK which would have improved their team, but last year Karl said no to a deal that would have sent LK to NY for David Lee and his 12 points and 11 rebounds a game.

Does anyone think those 12 points and 11 rebounds would have helped Denver beat LA two more times in the Western Conference Finals and also lead to a easy Finals victory over Orlando?

I do.

Karl could have easily ruined the chances of Denver winning a championship in the next decade just by running his mouth off to Wark and Rex about keeping LK.

I am fine with GK staying our coach for the next few years, but he has got to keep his mouth shut when it comes to the front office work. Please GK just be quiet, and let's get a ring or two in Denver.
