Antonio Gates, Philip Rivers' Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 2

Antonio Gates may be 34 years old, but he looked like a 25-year-old in his prime Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.

Much to the delight of fantasy football owners, the San Diego Chargers tight end hauled in two touchdown catches in the first half from quarterback Rivers. SportsCenter described the proceedings, while XTRA 1360 Fox Sports San Diego pointed out that it was business as usual for Mr. Gates:

Gates went ahead and added another touchdown for good measure in the third quarter.

Fantasy points for tight ends also mean fantasy points for the quarterback who threw the ball. Rivers tallied 284 passing yards and the three touchdowns Sunday, which was all the more impressive when the opponent was taken into consideration.

The Seahawks’ esteemed “Legion of Boom” secondary struggled to contain the veteran quarterback or Gates from the tight end spot all day. Rivers targeted Gates on both touchdown passes in the first half from inside the 10-yard line, which is good news for fantasy owners.

It only follows that the more throws Gates sees near the end zone, the more touchdowns he will score all season. That will work for Gates and Rivers.
