Cleveland Browns rookie cornerback Justin Gilbert was removed from the Week 2 matchup with the New Orleans Saints due to a possible concussion.
Ramon Antonio Vargas of The Advocate passed along the news on Gilbert's head injury:
The team later announced Gilbert was cleared to return, which is great news for Cleveland:
The No. 8 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft was immediately thrust into the Browns' starting defense this season. He responded in Week 1 with seven tackles, adding another three and a pass deflection against the Saints.
Gilbert was also nearly a big difference-maker for the team in Week 2, as Lyons Yellin of WWL-TV notes:
The Browns still have a quality defense, but there's no doubt they are a better unit with Gilbert healthy and on the field.
Fortunately for Cleveland, it sounds like Gilbert will avoid missing time based on the fact he was cleared to return. With the team already dealing with the absences of Josh Gordon and Ben Tate on offense, having Gilbert able to contribute is a crucial boost for the team.
