Philadelphia Eagles vs. Indianapolis Colts: Betting Odds, Monday Night Pick

OddsShark.comSep 12, 2014

The Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts both dug themselves into deep holes early in Week 1, and only one of them was able to rally back for a victory.

Each team will try to get off to better starts in Week 2, and the Colts enjoy a couple of favorable trends in this spot.

The Colts have followed up a loss with an against-the-spread victory 13 straight times. They are also 8-2 ATS on Monday nights.

Monday Night point spread: The Colts opened as 2.5-point favorites; the total was 52.5. (Line updates and matchup report)

Odds Shark Computer Prediction: 26.4-25 Eagles

Why the Eagles can cover the spread

Philadelphia got a serious wake-up call when the team trailed Jacksonville 17-0 at halftime in Week 1. However, the Eagles are so explosive offensively that they still had plenty of time to not only come back but also cover a double-digit point spread with ease.

Philly closed as the biggest favorite on the betting board at minus-10, although head coach Chip Kelly's offense did not need much time to make up the deficit, scoring two touchdowns in the first half of the third quarter.

The Eagles are 8-2 straight up in their last 10 games and 5-1 SU in their past six on the road.

Why the Colts can cover the spread

Indianapolis was not as fortunate as Philadelphia with its comeback bid, but a lot of that had to do with the opponent and venue. But they have been money in the bank following a loss over the past few seasons (13-0 ATS).

The Colts still have to feel pretty good about how they played on the road against the defending AFC champions, especially quarterback Andrew Luck, who threw for 370 yards and two touchdowns while also scoring on the ground.

Indy is 3-0 ATS in its last three games as home favorites of three points or more and will not have to deal with the same kind of raucous atmosphere that was definitely a factor in the team trailing the Denver Broncos 24-7 at halftime.

A good start can go a long way to helping the Colts even their record here against the Eagles and cover the spread for the second straight game to start the season.

Smart Pick

This should be an entertaining game and one that will likely feature a lot of points from both teams. Either one is capable of winning it by a field goal or more, so the best bet is probably taking the OVER despite the high number on the total.

The OVER is 4-0 in Philly’s last four games as a road underdog and 6-1 in the team's past seven meetings with AFC South opponents.

The total has also gone OVER in Indy's last four home games against non-divisional foes and in five straight if you count a 45-44 win over Kansas City in the playoffs last year.

Trends

  • Colts are 8-2 ATS past 10 Monday Nighters
  • The OVER is 6-1 Philly’s past seven meetings with AFC South
  • Colts have 13 straight games coming off a loss
