Barcelona to Wear 3rd Kit vs. Athletic Bilbao for First Time at Camp Nou
Barcelona will have a different look when they take the field for Saturday's home match against Athletic Bilbao.
Barca will wear their "senyera" third kit at the Camp Nou for the first time.
"FC Barcelona’s first team have been given permission by the LFP to wear their “senyera” kit against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday afternoon at the Camp Nou.
The Club’s Board of Directors had requested the change in strip, which features a design based on the Catalan flag, as part of the commemorations to mark the three hundredth anniversary of the September 11 siege of Barcelona in 1714.
"
September 11 was the National Day of Catalonia, but Stuart Goodwin of The Guardian reports that the club have distanced themselves from accusations that the move was a pro-independence gesture.
According to the report, defender Gerard Pique joined a march for Catalan independence on Thursday. The former Manchester United man tweeted a picture, with son Milan wearing the senyera shirt.
Kick-off is at 16:00 CET on Saturday.
