WWE SmackDown: Spoiler-Free Preview for Sept. 12

Ryan DilbertSep 11, 2014

The Sept. 12 edition of WWE SmackDown will be a showcase of fresh and surprising alliances.

Stardust, Dolph Ziggler and Chris Jericho will all find new partnerships in the pursuit of their enemies.

WWE's trip to the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, also allows for more Night of Champions buildup. That comes by way of rivalries crisscrossing in a number of tag team matches.

The action was all taped Tuesday, so it's not hard to dig through the Internet and discover what happened before SmackDown airs on Syfy at 8 p.m. ET.

For those who prefer to see victories and defeats unfold for themselves, the following is a non-spoiler look at all the matches set for Friday's show. Misfits will unite, powerhouses will arm-wrestle and The Authority will face a formidable pairing.

The Usos, Big Show and Mark Henry vs. Luke Harper, Erick Rowan, Goldust and Stardust

Harper and Rowan will temporarily let two more weirdos into their family.

The feud between The Wyatt Family and Big Show and Henry has been put on pause to allow The World's Strongest Man to take on Rusev. This clash serves as a reminder that the bad blood between the duos hasn't lessened.

For the tag champs, they get an early opportunity for revenge against the face-painted duo who have been giving them hell of late.

Thanks to Goldust and Stardust, Jey Uso has been hobbling around on crutches. This match will show how much he's healed and how much his injured knee is going to provide an easy target.

With the amount of animosity that should fill the ring, this promises to be a fun one.

Justin Gabriel vs. Bo Dallas

Gabriel will make a rare SmackDown appearance, entering as a big underdog to the rising newcomer.

Dallas has been mocking Jack Swagger for his recent losses. Should the would-be motivational speaker lose to a man with just two wins all year, per CageMatch.net, Swagger will be the one doing the mocking.

Given a bit of time, this could be entertaining. Gabriel's speed and high-flying moves should complement Dallas' throwback style well. It could be a poor man's version of Dallas' clashes with Adrian Neville.

Fans will expect this to be warm-up bout for Dallas as his feud with Swagger rolls on. A few swift kicks and a 450 splash from Gabriel, though, and we'll see Dallas pouting rather than taking his trademark victory lap.

Paige vs. Summer Rae

The Divas champ has two challengers waiting for her at Night of Champions. She can get a momentum-boosting win here against a familiar face from NXT.

Summer Rae hasn't been featured much of late. With a new season of Total Divas underway, expect to see a lot more of her, Eva Marie, Cameron and other women from that show.

On last week's SmackDown, distractions from AJ Lee and Nikki Bella helped Paige score a win over Brie Bella.

Will there be more chaos here, or will it remain just a one-on-one situation? A strong performance from Paige has her looking stronger heading into her title defense, but more run-ins with AJ or Nikki would aid their collective storyline.

Rusev vs. Mark Henry (Arm Wrestling)

At Night of Champions, fans will watch as these two bruisers smash into each other. For now, they will have to settle for arm wrestling.

Henry's nickname claims that he's The Strongest Man in the World. He has to prove it against a man who's pretty powerful himself.

WWE history says that this doesn't remain strictly an arm-wrestling contest.

Extra violence always occurs in these situations. Henry knows that better than most folks having taken a punch in the middle of his last arm-wrestling session.

Dolph Ziggler and R-Truth vs. The Miz and Damien Sandow

The Miz and his stunt double team up against an intriguing tag team.

Ziggler has issues with both Sandow and The Miz. He has collided with both of them in the ring lately. R-Truth was once The Miz's ally, as they headlined the 2011 Survivor Series as a duo.

One of the bigger questions going into this match will be: How much of the load will The Miz have Sandow carry? Will he remain on the apron while "Mizdow" takes a pounding? The more that occurs, the more likely it will be that Sandow will eventually turn on the smug star.

For now, the tag match offers a preview of the Intercontinental Championship match between Ziggler and The Miz.

Chris Jericho and Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton and Seth Rollins

Orton found himself a new enemy when he pounced on an injured Jericho on Monday's Raw.

Those two will now face each other at Night of Champions. That leaves Reigns free to pursue the man who tore The Shield apart.

SmackDown's main event meshes those two feuds into a single match. Much like the eight-man tag featuring The Usos, the aggression and overlapping stories sure to be a part of this give it a great shot of being something special.

A pair of former world champs and two emerging stars will meet in a convergence of present and future. Monday's Raw hit a lot of the right notes; it looks as if SmackDown is ready to follow suit.
