NFL Injury Report Week 2: Team-by-Team Updates, Inactive List and More

Donald WoodSep 11, 2014

Week 1 of the 2014 NFL regular season lived up to the lofty expectations, but there are several big-name players who already find themselves on the injury report heading into the second game of the year.

With top stars like Green Bay’s Eddie Lacy, Tampa Bay’s Doug Martin, Cleveland’s Jordan Cameron and others all questionable to play in Week 2, fantasy owners and fans of each team have their eyes focused on the injury report.

Here is the latest news, status updates and team-by-team inactives for the second week of the season.

Eddie Lacy, RB, Green Bay Packers

Status: Active

After suffering a concussion in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy cleared league protocol and will suit up in Week 2. He was not listed on the team's inactives report issued before the game.

According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, head coach Mike McCarthy said Lacy was looking like he'd start: “I would say Eddie Lacy is near the end, just based on talking with Eddie and what the medical staff feels. He's had good workouts. He's progressed very quickly.”

In Week 2, Green Bay squares off against the New York Jets at home.

Cam Newton, QB, Carolina Panthers

Status: Active

After missing Week 1 with a rib injury, the Carolina Panthers fully expect quarterback Cam Newton to get the start in Week 2 against the Detroit Lions, according to Steve Reed of The Associated Press.

Those expectations were confirmed when Newton was not listed among the Panthers' inactives:

Doug Martin, RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Status: Inactive

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin left his team’s Week 1 game with a knee injury. According to Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official website, Martin will be inactive:

The Buccaneers take on the St. Louis Rams in Week 2. Bobby Rainey should be expected to be the featured back for Tampa Bay.

Jordan Cameron, TE, Cleveland Browns

Status: Inactive

One of the top tight ends in fantasy football is Jordan Cameron of the Cleveland Browns, but owners could be concerned about his shoulder injury. According to the Browns' official Twitter feed, Cameron is listed as out for this week against the Saints:

This injury is alarming due to the fact that Cameron had the same shoulder injury during training camp. Backups Gary Barnidge and Jim Dray will likely receive the most action.

Andre Ellington, RB, Arizona Cardinals

Status: Active

Ellington was not listed on the Cardinals' inactives for Sunday's game, so he should be playing for the second straight week despite a foot injury. According to Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com, Arizona Cardinals running back Andre Ellington is dealing with a foot injury he suffered before the season began and practiced Thursday:

"

Running back Andre Ellington will wear a boot on his injured left foot so it can “calm down” after playing on it and he’ll probably not practice Wednesday. Then he will try and go Thursday and Friday to get ready for the Giants game. Playing through a little pain — knowing the injury can’t get worse — is important, Arians believes. Ellington did the same thing last year, skipping the Philadelphia game after hurting his knee and then coming back to play arguably his best game, in Tennessee.

"

The Cardinals play the lowly New York Giants on Sunday.

Ben Tate, RB, Cleveland Browns

Status: Inactive

There were high expectations for Cleveland Browns running back Ben Tate coming into the season, but he was injured in Week 1 when he sprained his knee. According to Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal, head coach Mike Pettine said Tate is out this week:

Fantasy owners with Tate should be looking to Browns rookie Terrance West to carry the workload against the New Orleans Saints in Week 2.
