Serbia vs. Brazil: TV Info, Live Stream and Preview for FIBA World Cup 2014

Rob GoldbergSep 10, 2014

Two teams will look to get in contention for a medal at the 2014 FIBA World Cup when Serbia takes on Brazil.

Brazil has only lost once in this tournament, going 4-1 in the group stage before dominating rival Argentina in the round of 16 to get into the quarterfinals. The lineup has a few NBA stars with the ability to make a big impact in this game and possibly beyond.

Serbia, on the other hand, barely squeaked out of the group stage with a 2-3 record, only earning wins over Iran and Egypt. The squad earned an upset win over previously undefeated Greece to get to the quarterfinals with only Miroslav Raduljica representing an NBA team.

These two teams have very different backgrounds, but anything can happen in a single-elimination portion of this prestigious tournament. Here is a guide to the upcoming game so you do not miss a second of the action.

Date: Wednesday, September 10, 2014

Time: 12 p.m. ET

Location: Palacio de los Deportes de la Comunidad, Madrid, Spain

TV: ESPN2

Live Stream: ESPN3

Brazil earned an 81-73 win when these two teams played earlier in the tournament, although it was never easy. Serbia outscored the eventual winners 32-12 in the third quarter and was up seven points in the fourth quarter.

However, Brazil found a way to ramp up the defense in the fourth quarter to turn things around on a 12-0 run. Tiago Splitter was especially impressive on that end of the court with Nene also making big plays as part of an impressive frontcourt along with Anderson Varejao.

As John Schuhmann of NBA.com added, the work on the boards was helpful in the recent win over Argentina:

While Brazil was unable to dominate on the boards the last time it played Serbia, watch for the team to take advantage of its biggest strength the next time out. This is what it will take for the squad to keep advancing into the next round.

“We know everybody. We’ve been playing together for ten years or more," Splitter explained after the latest win, via Schuhmann. "So it’s time for this generation to win something, to get to the top of this competition.”

By beating Serbia, Brazil would be in the semifinals and one win away from at least a medal.

Of course, the European squad is not going to give things away easily. Serbia has utilized a balanced attack to put points on the board from several different places in each game. Raduljica leads the way with 14.5 points per game in the tournament, while Nemanja Bjelica has been quite helpful in the frontcourt as well.

It will not be as easy for Brazil's bigs to dominant this matchup like they have in past battles.

The difference will be Leandro Barbosa, who is arguably the best guard in this game. He has been a consistent scorer for Brazil and should be able to get into the lane all day in this contest. This will help the South American squad pull away and earn a spot in the semifinals.

Prediction: Brazil 78, Serbia 67
