TNA Impact Wrestling: Complete Preview, Rumors, News and More for September 10

Donald WoodSep 9, 2014

After another week of less-than-entertaining wrestling action from other companies, it’s time for the best part of Wednesday nights—TNA’s Impact Wrestling from the Manhattan Center in New York City.

The main event of the show will feature Team 3D continuing the tag team championship series against The Wolves and The Hardys. Team 3D won the first match and chose the table stipulation for Wednesday’s Round 2.

Add in Bobby Roode earning the No. 1 contendership, James Storm introducing The Great Sanada and Sgt. Chris Melendez getting his first chance at performing in the ring, and wrestling fans are in store for another excellent TNA event.

Tag Team Title Tournament Rolls on

There are many fans who feel tag team wrestling is dead, but TNA is almost single-handedly bringing the lost art back. With The Wolves holding the tag team titles and two legendary duos like Team 3D and The Hardys challenging them, this triple-threat series has reinvigorated a younger generation of fans.

Tag team wrestling used to be great. Pairs such as The Road Warriors or Demolition dominated the sport for years and became fan favorites. Team 3D and The Hardys revolutionized tag team wrestling during the Attitude Era and are doing the same once again in TNA over a decade later.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Which Team Will Win Round 2?

Team 3D took the first win in the series and chose a Table match for Round 2 in a move that surprised no one. The first team to win twice in the series takes the World Tag Team Championships, so it will obviously be The Hardys or The Wolves who are victorious on Wednesday.

I’m going with The Hardys.

Jeff Hardy has been losing for the last several months and should be booked stronger. With Matt now by his side, TNA has a valuable asset in The Hardys and must make them look viable in the second match of the series. While this would be two losses in a row for The Wolves, it sets the stage for an incredible finish to the tournament.

Hype Meter: 5 out of 5 Instant Classics

If the first match between these three teams is any indication of what the fans at home should expect Wednesday, this will be yet another Match of the Year candidate. The crowd loved the first match, and with a table stipulation in the second, there is no doubt New York will be boisterous this week as well.

If The Hardys do win Wednesday, the stage will be set for back-to-back victories for The Wolves. What better way to put over the titles and the most promising tag team in the business today than by allowing them to beat both Team 3D and The Hardys?

Bobby Roode, The Great Sanada, Sgt. Chris Melendez and More

After a pay-per-view quality match last week against Eric Young on Impact Wrestling, Bobby Roode is now the new No. 1 contender for Bobby Lashley’s TNA World Heavyweight Championship. The two men will likely come face to face Wednesday.

TNA has done a great job building Roode as the long-term answer to stop Lashley’s reign, but it remains to be seen if the company will pull the trigger on a title change. The Bound for Glory PPV is in October, and letting Roode walk into the event as the champion and having him square off against Lashley in a rematch would be the best course of action.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Will The Great Sanada Continue His Ascension?

One of the most intriguing storylines in TNA today is the rebirth of The Great Sanada. Using the guidance James Storm has offered, Sanada has gone from an aimless X Division worker to one of the top heels being built today.

As if Sanada and Storm haven’t been good enough together, the addition of Austin Aries and wrestling legend Tajiri to the mix makes this must-watch television. The Great Sanada should get the win in this match and continue the feud between Aries and Sanada.

Hype Meter: 5 out of 5 Debut Matches

If you missed the story of Sgt. Chris Melendez, you are missing the most inspiring story in recent wrestling history. After losing his leg while serving in the United States military, Melendez began training at the Team 3D Academy and will make his debut Thursday.

Wrestling fans must understand that Melendez is green in the ring and will need time to develop, but he should have a solid match to start his career. Look for TNA to use one of the top performers not in a storyline (i.e., Tigre Uno or DJZ) to help get him over in a serviceable matchup.
