Munir El Haddadi, Seung-Woo Lee Prove La Masia Still Producing for Barcelona

Rik SharmaSep 9, 2014

Munir El Haddadi and Seung-Woo Lee both made an impact on world football this week and Barcelona will be delighted with the work of their La Masia stars.

Even though Barcelona are currently banned from making transfers because of their hiring practices, the fabled youth academy continues to produce top talents.

If there is a gap which needs to be filled between now and 2016, when they can buy players again, there usually is someone who can step up from Barcelona B to save the day.

That's certainly been the theme of the first couple of La Liga matches, which have seen Munir and Sandro Ramirez get on the scoresheet.

The former made such a big impact against Elche that he was called up to the Spain U21 squad. And then, when Diego Costa got injured, enjoyed a further promotion to Spain's first-team.

On Monday night Vicente del Bosque brought Munir on for his La Roja debut at the tender age of 19. He replaced Koke after 77 minutes.

Cynics will say that the Spain coach used Munir to ensure that he is not eligible for Morocco in the future, to secure him as a "Spanish" prospect.

But he has the potential to be extremely good and that is thanks to the guidance he has received at La Masia.

Munir told Teledeporte, h/t Goal.com:

"

I never doubted about playing for Spain. I was born here and I am very happy to have made my debut. To play for Spain was my own decision. I knew what it meant to appear for Spain. This is a childhood dream come true.

"

South Korean wonderkid Lee, who scored a truly brilliant goal in the Asian under-16 Championships in Thailand against Malaysia, is a similar hot prospect.

He took on several defenders, beating them all, before firing home from the edge of the box with aplomb.

The Daily Mail's Robin Cottle claimed Lee has been labelled the "Korean Messi" and that he has "outperformed Messi at under-15 level for the Spanish club, bagging 38 goals in just 29 games compared with the Argentine's 37 in 30."

But these players, who have made an impact this week, are just the tip of the iceberg.

Sergi Samper is one of a handful of players who is close to breaking through into the first-team squad on a regular basis.

The central midfielder could be used this season at various points and seems to have a lot more in his armory than Sergi Roberto, who has made a few appearances for Barcelona.

Alex Song moving on loan to West Ham for the season means that at least one of the two Sergi's will get a bit more game time in this campaign.

Together with Luis Enrique's faith in youth players and their desire and hunger for success, La Masia could be making headlines sooner rather than later.

Adama Traore is another player that you're advised to keep an eye on. He has explosive pace and great strength, which allows him to shine at youth level.

However, his dribbling and directness are also assets which should see him get a fair crack of the whip under Enrique, most likely next season.

The future is bright at Barca and it's thanks to their academy.
