Tyreke Evans: The LeBron James of Point Guards
With extreme vigor and intensity, Tyreke Evans drives toward the rim and finishes at ease.
These words can be said many, many times when watching Evans play in summer league. His ability to drive has been touted as amazing and unique, with a blend of speed and athleticism even some of the best guards don't have. Crossover, behind the back dribbles, and an uncanny ability to just break the defender's heals have given Evans the potential to be one of the best players in the NBA.
When I see Evans play, his game is almost dependent on his ability to drive. His sudden moves and deceptive dribbles often catch the defender off-guard. His physical body reminds me of LeBron James, because he just has the ability to hang in the air and make the play. He's just too strong, too quick, and agile. The Sacramento Kings head coach even described it as "slither ability"
However, when watching Evans play, the similarity of his game to LeBron's can be drawn from his ability to get foul shots. Both LeBron and Tyreke have that unique talent to hang in the air and get contact. That's the main reason why I think Evans can one day be among the top scorers in the NBA. He could end up with 30 easily because of 15 to 20 free throw nights.
The final similarity in my opinion is what I call the "triple-double nature". LeBron doesn't get triples doubles every night, but he's awfully close. LeBron can do this because of his ability to see the court, his aggression, and his enormous wingspan.
Evans has all these attributes. He's already tall for a point guard at 6'6", but his lanky arms and tremendous wingspan will also aid him. In terms of assists, Evans is a playmaker because of his ability to get to the rim. If he doesn't shoot, he'll pop it out, or he'll make the beautiful dish inside.
I see Evans as an extremely dangerous player NBA, because of his amazing talent.
