And there we were, thinking silly season only existed during the transfer window.
Not anymore, it seems.
Just over a week since the summer transfer window closed, Chelsea are now being linked with a £60 million swoop for Cristiano Ronaldo, per Daily Express.
Real Madrid's Portuguese star is rumoured to be leaving last season's Champions League winners next summer, with a move back to Manchester United being mooted.
Chelsea have thrown their hat into the ring, though, with Mourinho apparently using his strong relationship with the player as a way of bringing him to Stamford Bridge.
Jack Grealish Offered Four-Year Deal to Fend off Chelsea Interest

He only made his debut for Aston Villa at the end of last season, but it hasn't stopped Jack Grealish from becoming a target for leading clubs in England.
The 19-year-old has reportedly captured the interest of Chelsea according to the Daily Mail, with Villa offering him a four-year deal in order to keep him at Villa Park.
Grealish is in the last 12 months of his contract, so could leave for free come the end of the season, with any fee decided by tribunal.

It's not just Aston Villa dishing out new contracts to avoid losing players to Chelsea.
talkSPORT reports that Valencia will offer Paco Alcacer a new deal amid interest from the Blues and their London rivals Arsenal.
Alcacer's profile has been given a boost this week after making his debut for Spain in the 5-1 win over Macedonia, also scoring en route victory.
With club's appearing interests, Valencia are acting now to avoid losing the 21-year-old.
Move for Adrien Rabiot Not off the Cards for Chelsea

His name has been strongly linked with moves across the continent this summer, but Adrien Rabiot remains at Paris Saint-Germain.
How long for remains to be seen, however.
The French star has now been strongly linked with a move to Roma in January, according to the Express. However, with the Serie A club denying any deal is in place, it's left the door open for Chelsea and Arsenal.
A move to London had been mooted before the summer transfer window closed, with The Independent suggesting the Blues had tabled a £7 million bid earlier in July.
Tiago Admits Rejecting Chelsea Return This Summer
5 of 5
Chelsea already have three ex-Atletico Madrid players in their squad this season.
Had Tiago not turned down Jose Mourinho's advances, it would have been four.
The Portuguese midfielder, who enjoyed a one-year spell at Stamford Bridge in 2004/05, has admitted Chelsea wanted to re-sign him this summer. The club apparently made a "great offer," but he declined the opportunity to join up with Diego Costa, Thibaut Courtois and Filipe Luis.
He told AS (via Sky Sports News):
"The summer was very difficult. I want to explain to the fans what happened but there are some things I cannot explain because they are not important.
At the end of last season, I received a great offer [from Chelsea] and it made me think about making a change. But I realised that the most important thing was to feel important at a club.
I spoke to Cholo [Diego Simeone] and he told me he wanted me in the squad in the next training session. From then, I could only think of rejoining Atletico and wearing this shirt again.
I am happy and grateful to everyone and to the club for having me back. I will give everything on the pitch to return their efforts.
