WWE Raw: Potential Spoilers, Rumors, News and Preview for Sept. 8

Ryan DilbertSep 8, 2014

After a dreadful show last week, WWE is set to atone itself with a Steel Cage match and a SummerSlam rematch on the Sept. 8 edition of Raw.

Raw has to compete with Monday Night Football for the first time this year. It looks as if WWE is doing everything it can to keep its viewers from straying to the New York Giants vs. Detroit Lions.

What the company is dubbing a "season premiere" will feature John Cena gearing up for another shot at the man who took his title, Jerry Springer making his second appearance on Raw and some attention paid to the Night of Champions undercard.

House-show reports, James Wortman's five-point preview on WWE.com and hints WWE has recently planted give fans a good idea of what to expect to go down when Cena, Roman Reigns and company head to Baltimore, Maryland.

News, Potential Spoilers

The WWE title feud will once again focus on Cena. Fans may see The Beast Incarnate in another promo video but not in person.

James Caldwell reports for PWTorch that Cena is scheduled to appear on Monday's Raw but Brock Lesnar is not. Lesnar isn't booked until the go-home edition of Raw.

The WWE.com preview suggests that Raw will feature Cena looking to prove himself, much like he has the last two weeks. Wortman asks in that article, "How will Cena ensure that history doesn't repeat itself in two weeks?"

That sounds like the audience should expect another overpowering performance from Cena.

What fans shouldn't expect is Micheal Sam showing up. Last week, Stephanie McMahon wrote an open letter to the NFL draftee, offering him a forum on Monday's Raw to speak his mind, per For The Win.

At the time, he was without a team, having not made it through the last round of cuts for the St. Louis Rams. He has since found a new home. ESPN's Calvin Watkins reported that the Dallas Cowboys signed Sam to their practice squad.

The open letter is now gone from WWE.com. The YouTube video promoting his invitation is now set to private.

A faction thought to be discarded may be able to take the airtime WWE planned on giving Sam. Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston and Big E are still working together.

A house-show report from PWTorch noted that Big E and Kingston teamed up to defeat NXT tag champs The Ascension on Sunday in Salisbury, Maryland.

On Instagram, Woods posted a shot from that event showing the trio together in the ring:

That's a clear sign that WWE has not yet given up on the alliance that hasn't been on TV for weeks. Are the three men headed for a feud with The Ascension once they get called up to the main roster, or will Kingston, Woods and Big E force their way into the tag team spotlight as early as Monday?

Big Matches, Big Drama

The feud between Nikki and Brie Bella is about to get more melodramatic. Springer, host of the long-running The Jerry Springer Show, will host an intervention between the warring sisters.

Springer's own show usually ends in hair-pulling and wild punches. That's likely what we'll see here as well.

Last week, Brie shoved Nikki to the ground after losing her temper. A week before that, Nikki pummeled a tearful Brie. It's hard to imagine things getting smoothed over, with Springer's help or not.

It will be intriguing to see how much AJ Lee and Paige get involved here and where this story is heading.

As McMahon announced via a YouTube video, Nikki and AJ will both challenge Paige at Night of Champions. The five-point preview hints that Brie and Nikki's latest meeting will have a bearing on that match.

In it, Wortman asks, "How will this intervention change the complexion of the Divas Championship Triple Threat Match at Night of Champions?"

That pay-per-view may not need to feature Reigns vs. Randy Orton because the two may conclude their feud on Monday's Raw. WWE tweeted that Monday's Raw would host that match as well as Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt in a cage:

If Reigns knocks off Orton without much controversy, that could be a sign that he'll target Seth Rollins at the upcoming event rather than The Viper.

Monday's Raw could also be the last clash for Jericho and Wyatt. WWE hasn't done much to carry on their feud as of late. Besides, Triple H suggested that this will the last round of their battle.

In an interview with Michael Cole, The Game called the third installment of Jericho vs. Wyatt the "final chapter."

Triple H also noted that his previous indecision about having Cena face Lesnar is over. He told Cole, "the match is happening."

Other Night of Champions Storylines

Mark Henry vs. Rusev is now official, per WWE.com. On Friday's SmackDown, Henry called out The Bulgarian Brute. He promised to give Rusev a "red-white-and-blue ass-whooping."

Fans can expect to see more confrontations between these two powerhouses as Night of Champions draws closer.

Big Show may play a part in this as a subplot. On the same SmackDown, Big Show showed some resistance to Henry temporarily leaving their team goals behind to pursue this battle.

Monday's Raw could see another expected match go official. Goldust and Stardust have been attacking The Usos at every opportunity as of late. That certainly hints at a tag title showdown, as does Stardust's promo from the most recent SmackDown:

Every other champion has their challenger set. With less than two weeks left until Night of Champions, The Usos' title bout should be added to the card soon.

This battle between two brother teams won't get positioned in the center of the spotlight with Cena, Reigns, Jericho and The Bellas as the show's focus, but it will be key in rounding out the Night of Champions lineup.
