Tottenham Hotspur Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of September 8

Sam RookeSep 7, 2014

At the closure of the transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur were uncharacteristically quiet. Signing just Benjamin Stambouli on deadline day, Spurs avoided panic buying. They had already concluded much of their business earlier in the summer.

The failure to add another senior forward seems to have left the side a little short in that department, but they seem well stocked in other positions.

With well over 100 days until the window reopens, there is little transfer speculation, but Spurs continue to be linked with forwards. Meanwhile, several other players are still reportedly nearing the exit.

Be sure to check back during the week as this article will be updated with all the fresh transfer news and rumours.

Vertonghen Going Nowhere

1 of 3

Spurs achieved one of their key transfer window goals when, on Deadline Day, Jan Vertonghen remained a Tottenham player.

His exit had been mooted earlier in the summer and even seemed likely following a disappointing end to last season.

But Spurs held firm and kept their man. They now appear poised to go one better with the Belgian defender ready to agree a new contract

Spurs' defence is reliant upon Vertongen's skills and tactical acumen. Were he to leave, they would be a significantly weaker side.

Konoplyanka Returns as Wide Option

2 of 3

According to the Daily Star, Ukraine winger Yevhen Konoplyanka has rejected a new contract at Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.

A long-term target of Spurs, Konoplyanka would complement the team's attacking options. The wide man would be available on a cut-price deal in January as his contract expires in 2015.

A cheap and effective option, Konoplyanka would suit Spurs' football and their transfer strategy.

This move makes a lot of sense and could really gather momentum in the coming months.

Soldado's Former Strike Partner Available on Free Transfer

Singaporean billionaire Peter Lim completed his long-term takeover of Valencia this summer. As part of his immediate impact, several players had their contracts terminated after replacements were signed.

Jonas, a Brazilian forward who scored over 50 goals in three-and-a-half seasons in Spain, was one of the players released. The 30-year-old is now a free agent and considering an offer to join Tottenham, according to the Daily Mail.

Lacking real pace, Jonas has a handy knack of finding space and is a good finisher. He would raise the overall quality of Tottenham's squad without having much impact on the first team.
