Jets' Chris Ivory Gallops for 2nd-Longest Run in Team History

Bleacher Report MilestonesSep 9, 2014

New York Jets running back Chris Ivory recorded the second-longest rushing play in team history during Sunday's 19-14 win over the Oakland Raiders, scampering for a 71-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, per ESPN Stats & Info.

With his Jets up 13-7 and just over eight minutes remaining, Ivory took a handoff up the middle, broke free of a would-be tackler and then outraced the Oakland secondary to the end zone. Nearly brought down by Raiders cornerback T.J. Carrie inside the 5-yard line, Ivory managed to drag Carrie into the end zone.

Ivory finished his day with 102 yards and the touchdown on 10 carries, with the 71-yard run topping a 69-yarder from last season as the longest rush of his career.

The Jets ran for 210 yards as a team, with running back Chris Johnson racking up 68 yards on 13 totes and quarterback Geno Smith (38 yards) and running back Bilal Powell (four yards) also pitching in.

In Jets history, Ivory's carry is bested only by Bruce Harper's 78-yard run in a 1983 game against the Atlanta Falcons. The team has had one other 71-yard rush, courtesy of Thomas Jones in a 2009 game versus the Buffalo Bills, according to Pro-Football-Reference.com's play index.

Known for his physicality more so than his speed, Ivory has already proven that Chris Johnson isn't the only home run threat in the New York backfield.
