WWE Poll Results: All Decided By You, the BR Writers (Part 1)

Matthew HesterJul 16, 2009

Hello everyone. As always, I would like to thank you again for spending some time with me today.

A few days ago I put out a poll on the WWE for all the readers to vote on. The questions varied from the state of the WWE all the way to the best jobber. It was a lot of fun and I would like to thank those that took the time to vote.

The one complaint I did get on multiple occasions was the length of the poll. Well don’t let it ever be said that I do not listen to my readers. To avoid this problem again I have broken up the results in two parts.

I will also be throwing my two cents in on the results of the poll. I would also like for my readers to throw in their thoughts. It not only adds some fun into the soup, it also validates the poll results.

There were some complications when I tallied the results. They were minor issues, things like voting out of order or voting for all instead of one person. Some questions people didn’t even answer so that kind of skewed things a little.

The questions received multiple votes I decided to count them all. The votes that were out of order I figured out. The non-votes though I couldn’t count because there was nothing to count.

For the most part though the voting was pretty smooth and went well.

So with out any further delay, I give you the results from the BR WWE poll.

The first question that was asked was what does everyone consider the WWE’s A brand?

The results for this one were pretty lop-sided. It was Smackdown that would win this battle. This shouldn’t be surprising to anyone, as Smackdown has given us a much better product. It will be interesting to see if Raw can step up its game.

With the addition of Jack Swagger and Evan Bourne, that should help out the show. At some point, though, Raw will have to fix things if they want it to be WWE’s flagship show. As far as Smackdown goes, I would see no reason for it not to stay on top.

Smackdown has the better workers and young up and comers. As long as they don’t get goofy with the writing and can avoid injuries, they will continue to stay in good shape.

The next question I threw out there was, what do you think are Raw's biggest setbacks?

This was close run on this question. Everyone one of the answers would get a fair amount of votes. I was a bit surprised at how many people thought the wrestling was bad. I will be honest, I think the matches that Raw puts on are decent enough.

The main issue people had with Raw, though, was bad writing and stale matches. In fact ,these two categories would only be separated by a couple votes. It was bad writing that would win this one out.

This question would show us that there are multiple issues with Raw. As most fans will tell you, they a tired of watching the same four guys go after the heavyweight title.

This is an issue that could be resolved, though, with guys like MVP and Swagger on the roster.

As far as the wrestling being bad goes, I wouldn’t agree with that completely. While I would agree 100% that matches have gotten stale. I still would have to say the matches that we do see, there is a good effort given by both every time.

The issue with Raw's writing is something that could easily be resolved. They need to not only hire better writers, but also give these guys time to get good feuds and stories cooking.

I asked the same question about the Smackdown brand.

There were hardly any complaints at all, as far as Smackdown was concerned. We had a couple votes for not enough matches, and one vote each for bad wrestling and stale matches.

Other then that everyone either said there was no problem at all, or said that Smackdown needed to be on another network and have the time changed. I agree 100 percent with those statements. I would also like to see Smackdown live again.

I asked who should get the next shot at the heavyweight title. This one was a landslide win.

It would appear that most feel that it is John Morison’s time to shine. Morrison went on to take all the votes except for five of them. I wouldn’t mind seeing Morrison as champ myself; I have to be honest, though; I don’t feel he is ready yet.

I would like to see Morrison wrestle and carry the match with some more top stars. I would also like to see him work on his promo skills more. The last few I have seen with him seemed forced and UN natural.

I was also surprised to see hardly any votes go to MVP, or Shelton Benjamin. These two have paid their dues and they both are ready for a shot at the strap. I can understand the lack of votes for Swagger, since he is still young.

Make no mistake, though; Swagger will accomplish more then any of the above-mentioned. That is of course if he isn’t bit with the injury bug a lot.

I decided to go a little retro with the next question. I asked who you guys felt were the best tag team in WWE history?

I would like to first start of by apologizing to all of you. I forgot to add, “Pick your own” on to the choices. This was a fun one to go over for me. It was a very tight race and we had some nice write in votes.

We would have a two-way tie for second with the Hart Foundation, and Christian and Edge. The winners would be the Hardy Boyz; they beat the above-mentioned teams by one vote.

I can buy into throwing the Hardys as one of the WWE’s greatest tag teams. They have put in their dues and deserved to be thought of that way. The same can also be said for Edge and Christian, and the Hart Foundation.

The interesting votes came in by people picking their own.

LOD received two write-in votes. I want you guys to hear me out on this one. LOD is not the greatest tag team in WWE history. If I said who was the best tag team in the history of wrestling? Then I would agree 100 percent with everyone who picked LOD.

Demolition also would get a vote in this contest. A good argument for them could be made. Most wrestling people considered them WWE’s answer for LOD. They did, however, go on to become one of WWE’s most dominant teams.

We would also get a couple votes for the Dudleys. I will go back to my LOD argument with them. If I said the best ever, then I could see throwing them in the mix. They are not the best in WWE history though.

My next question was a fluff question. What do you enjoy watching more?

Most of you picked ECW on this one. I was pleasantly surprised though to see Superstars get a nice amount of votes. I wasn’t surprised though to see ECW take it.

It would only make sense that ECW would win. For starters Superstars isn’t shown everywhere. Thrown in the fact that ECW is more established and the winner is clear and cut.

The next question that I threw out was another fun one to go over. I asked who everyone thought was the best technical wrestler on the WWE’s roster.

This basically came down to three people. It was between Jack Swagger, Benjamin and Chris Jericho. It would be a tie between Swagger and Benjamin.  The winner that would stand tall, though, would be Chris Jericho.

It can be easily argued that Jericho is a superior overall wrestler than those two. I would have to make a strong case though that he was picked more as a fan favorite. I will be honest though; as a Jerichoholic, I am glad that he won.

With that being said, in my humble opinion would have to say that Swagger and Benjamin are probably the two best technical grapplers on the roster.

I should be fair and mention that HHH, Edge and Tyson Kidd all got a vote each.

The next question on the list was, who wrestles for the title too often?

I am sure that it is no surprise to anyone that this was won by “The Game” HHH. He would go on to take this category by a landslide. I guess it must be nice being married to the boss’s daughter.

I would now like to ask for all the HHH fans to put your pitchforks away. This is all in fun and jest. I am very aware of his accomplishments in the business. I also know that he has paid his dues.

I’m sure even HHH fans can understand though how us non-HHH fans can feel this way. It seems like every other month he is wrestling for the title. It would be nice to see some fresh matches now and then.

Everyone else clocked in around the same amount of votes. John Cena got 4 votes, Edge Hardy and Orton all got 3 each.

This would be another runaway category. I asked, who is the next up and comer?

Jack Swagger ran away with the votes on this one. The closest one to follow him was Bourne and he only got three himself.

I wasn’t too surprised with the voting on this one. Swagger has the look, the abilities, and the confidence needed to be a star in this business. He needs to work on his promos skills a little, that is something that can be fixed over time, though.

We had a few write-in votes for John Morrison. The only problem I see with voting for him in this category is, I don’t think he is considered an up and comer anymore. He is more on the brink of being ready.

Dolph Ziggler also would get a couple votes in this category. He is making some nice progress I have to give him that. I still want to some more from him before I give my thoughts on the issue.

The final question that I will cover for the day is, who was the best heavyweight champ ever?

This would be a tight fight to the finish with this question. When you throw out the names that you had to choose from it will always be close. This would end up in a tie when all was said and done.

I am also sure if we had more voters it probably would have turned out different. It would end up in a tie though, between Stone Cold Steve Austin and Bret Hart. The Rock would get a strong showing as well as HBK.

Coming in last in this group would be the Undertaker and Hogan. I will be honest with everyone; I was a little surprised to see that happen.

We would also get in a write in vote for John Cena and Yokozuna.

I would like to thank everyone for joining me today.

As always, have a great night and God bless.
