Manchester United Transfer News: Elite Stars Rumoured for Red Devils Move

Tom SunderlandSep 7, 2014

Recent reports would suggest midfield recruitment is the only concern on Louis van Gaal's mind as he takes Manchester United into what will be his first experience of a winter transfer window in the Premier League.

Daley Blind, Angel Di Maria and Ander Herrera were all added to the Red Devils' ranks over the summer, but it appears a steelier presence is being targeted.

Stars of Germany and Italy's elite tiers are listed as those being on the Reds' priorities, with another potential splurge awaiting the English giants.

It's been a roller-coaster last few months for Christoph Kramer, and after getting an unexpected start in the 2014 World Cup final triumph, Bayer Leverkusen's anchor could earn himself a move to Old Trafford.

Jamie Anderson of the Express reported the Germans could opt to cash in on his services this January, rather than allow him to leave next summer when his contract expires.

Kramer's standing within the national ranks is growing after he claimed Germany's Man of the Match award from their clash against Argentina:

Anderson suggests Borussia Monchengladbach will offer competition for the midfielder as they look to sew up a January deal of their own, but United could have the edge as they look to rebuild their Old Trafford legacy.

Arturo Vidal

Arturo Vidal has dismissed speculation that his longstanding knee injury is once again a cause for concern after it emerged he had aggravated the problem on international duty.

Posting on his official Twitter account, Vidal insisted his knee is in fine condition:

Sky Sports provide a translation of Vidal's proclamation, the Chilean saying: “My knee is perfect. Please stop making stuff up. Forza Chile!”

The statement comes after Vidal has once again been tipped for a move to Old Trafford, with the Daily Star's Paul Brown suggesting Juan Mata could move in the opposite direction.

The arrivals of Radamel Falcao and Di Maria at United have complicated Mata's involvement under Van Gaal to a degree, and if the Red Devils feel Vidal would be worth the sacrifice, a January move may yet be sanctioned.

That would depend largely on how Juventus are faring by the time winter comes around, in both the domestic and European competitions, with Massimiliano Allegri facing a fight to live up to Antonio Conte's standards.

Kevin Strootman

Kevin Strootman's potential move to Manchester United looks that much more likely after the Dutchman chose to dump agent Chiel Dekker in favour of SEG (Sports Entertainment Group).

The Mirror's David McDonnell confirmed the agency as being responsible for Robin van Persie's switch to Old Trafford, with Van Gaal's presence at the club seemingly an attractive prospect for any Dutch national team stars.

On Friday, agent Fabio Parisi was quoted by Ben Burrows of the Mirror, insisting United are yet to make contact regarding a January switch:

"There is no kind of interest on Strootman. He is recovering from his injury and will be available soon to contribute to Roma's cause. For the rest, I say that is just talk and there is nothing. It's all just speculation from England."

However, that's hardly a surprise considering it's only September and the midfielder is still on his way back from a serious knee injury. WhoScored.com provided details of what the Dutchman is capable of when fit:

Despite this summer's business, a no-nonsense midfield destroyer remains something Van Gaal's side may be considered lacking in, and Strootman offers a box-to-box presence highly respected in such terms.
