Right tackle Anthony Davis will be absent when the San Francisco 49ers open their 2014 season on the road against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

The Niners released their Week 1 injury report, which lists Davis as out:

The 24-year-old has been a stalwart on San Francisco's offensive line over the last four years. He's yet to miss a single regular-season game for the 49ers since being selected in the first round (11th overall) of the 2010 draft. Replacing such an entrenched starter can be very hard to do.

The San Francisco Chronicle's Eric Branch thinks this could be Jonathan Martin's time to shine:

"I think he’s definitely made strides there," 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman told The Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows about Martin. "He lost a bunch of weight and a lot of the gains he had put together, he had to start back at square one once he got over that little illness."

The offensive line was a bit of a concern for the 49ers last year. Football Outsiders ranked the unit 29th in run-blocking and 22nd in pass protection.

If Martin does start, he'll have a lot of pressure resting on his shoulders as the team looks to improve the O-line in front of quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
