"Delicious" Pretty Ricky: Does no one else have a problem with this?
Hello everyone. As always, I would like to thank you once again for spending a few minutes with me today.
What I am here to discuss today is something that bothers me a great deal. It is an issue I try to avoid, but sometimes Vince forces me to discuss it. I am going to have to bring up again the issue of racism.
I was home Friday night, watching Smackdown like I always do. The show was entertaining enough for the most part. Like always, the matches were good most of the night. Then I saw something that made my jaw drop and my head started to pulse. I saw R-Truth's alter ego “Delicious” Pretty Ricky. I had to blink a few times because I could not believe what I was watching.
I thought Cryme Tyme was bad enough when it came to racism and stereotypes. This was one hundred times worse than Cryme Tyme. Can the WWE possibly be more insensitive and offensive?
I had always respect for R-truth folks, but I don’t think I can after watching that. Does he not have any pride in himself or for the black community? I was surprised he wasn’t running around holding fried chicken and watermelon.
I am also just disgusted at how tasteless the WWE can be. I have seen it year after year. It never stops. If I had to guess, I would say it probably never will. The fact is that the media and people let Vince get away with it. I have to be honest, though. I am used to the WWE pulling this kind of stuff. The person I am more disappointed with is R-Truth. He should know better than to agree to do something like that.
Black athletes in this country have been fighting for respect for decades. They are trying to be a positive role models for their friends, family, and community. What kind of message does “Delicious” Pretty Ricky send out?
This is one of the main reasons why black wrestlers are not respected as much as white wrestlers. Most of the times they slap them with these offensive gimmicks that make you want to cringe. It just bewilders me to see crap like this in 2009. Meanwhile, they take a guy like Shelton Benjamin, who is a first-class athlete and throw him on ECW.
Another thing that has me a little bothered is how no one else seems to care about this. I have not seen one article, or even a comment for that matter, about what they showed on Smackdown.
I really hope that “Delicious” Pretty Ricky never sees the light of day again. It’s hard enough for me to stomach Cryme Tyme. It would really sadden me to see my favorite show revert to this kind of stuff.
It is the year 2009 people. We have made so many strides to get rid of racism and stereotypes that have been forced on people for so long. This type of behavior is looked down upon in every other form of entertainment. It is time for wrestling to be added to that list. Folks, it is time for pro wrestling to clean up its act!
Thank you again for spending a few minutes with me today.
As always, have a great day and God bless.
