David Beckham Is Disappointed Danny Welbeck Left Manchester United

Sean SwabySep 2, 2014

David Beckham is a product of Manchester United's youth academy and admittedly still a fan of the club he spent so much time with, so naturally, the former England captain was disappointed to see fellow youth product Danny Welbeck leave.

Welbeck left his boyhood club on the final day of the transfer window in a £16 million move to United rival, Arsenal

Beckham praised the move for Arsenal, but he admitted he was sad to see the talented 23-year-old forward leave Old Trafford, per BBC Sport: "Arsenal have a very good, young talented English player. To see him leave Manchester United is sad. He had been there since he was eight and his heart was in Manchester."

England boss Roy Hodgson was pleased with Welbeck's move, as he'll see greater on-pitch time without the overflow of attacking competition that flooded United.

"The biggest bonus is for Danny Welbeck," Hodgson said. "When you are a player of his calibre and find yourself at United with competition for places, you don't always get the starts you would like. He is going to a club where he will hopefully get more starts and playing time."
