Manchester United Summer Transfer Deadline Tracker 2014: List of Moves, Rumours

Rob BlanchetteSep 1, 2014

It has been a busy summer of transfer activity for Manchester United,ย a host of new players joining the club in an attempt to revitalise fortunes.

However, Louis van Gaal has found the early going difficult. The Red Devils have failed to win any of their first three Premier League matches and were knocked out of the League Cup.

Transfer deadline day is now here and United will be looking to tie up their business in conclusive fashion.

Follow all the news and gossip with Bleacher Report, as players come and go from Old Trafford on a frenetic and exciting Monday.ย

United to Make Late Move for Arturo Vidal

1 of 9

Manchester United will make one last bid to land Arturo Vidal from Juventusย on transfer deadline day.

Theย Metroย say that Louis van Gaal will offer the Old Lady one last opportunity to sell the Chile international, according to reports in Italy.

Tuttosportย believe United will make a final bid of ยฃ39.5 million in an attempt to bring the world-class midfielder to Old Trafford, per theย Metro.

The Metroย report that United want a quick answer from Juve, or they will move on to other targets in the final hours of the transfer window.ย

Jorge Mendes Offers Joao Moutinho to Manchester United

2 of 9

Super agent Jorge Mendes is thought to have offered Manchester United the services of his client, Joao Moutinho.

Theย Metroย writes that the Red Devils will discuss the proposal during their talks for the capture of Radamel Falcaoโ€”who is also one of Mendes' players at Monaco.

Andย Ben Jeffersonย of theย Expressย says that United see Moutinho as an alternative to Juventus' Arturo Vidal, who Louis van Gaal has been monitoring since he took charge.

Jefferson also says Mendes is working hard to find his Monaco players new homes for the season ahead and that United's desire to add a central midfielder could see a very late deal being completed.ย

Theย Metroย speculate that a deal for Moutinho would cost United ยฃ15 million.ย

Chicharito Officially Joins Real Madrid

3 of 9

Javier Hernandez has left Manchester United to join Champions League holders, Real Madrid.

The Spanish club'sย official websiteย confirmed the loan move for the Mexico international, with Los Blancos releasing a press statement, per Goal.com:

"

Real Madrid and Manchester United have reached an agreement over the loan deal of Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, who will be playing for Madrid this season.ย Madrid have an option to buy the player outright.ย Javier Hernandez will be unveiled to the media in the press room Monday at 16:30 CET.

"

Despite being hugely popular with the United faithful, Chicharito has failed to hold down a first-team place since joining the Red Devils,ย primarilyย being used as an impact sub.

United Strike Huge Deal for Radamel Falcao?

4 of 9

Louis van Gaal has hijacked Manchester City and Arsenal's moves for Colombian superstar Radamel Falcao with a ยฃ51 million bid for the Monaco striker.

Theย Metroย report that United have rushed in to complete a deal with Falcao, who is said to be on his way to England for a medical.

Highly regardedย South American journalist Saris Bello revealed the huge offer on Twitter, explaining the detail of the transfer, per the Metro:ย "Man United bought Falcaoย for 65M Euros, he will be playing for 4 seasons and will be the player best payed in the Premier League."

Meanwhile,ย Jamie Jacksonย ofย The Guardianย writes that the player has been offered to City and Arsenal for ยฃ55 million, with the Premier League champions trying to bring the marquee striker to the Etihad around their Financial Fair Play restrictions.ย

Louis Van Gaal to Grab Norway Teenage Prodigy

5 of 9

Manchester United are planning a late swoop for Norway's youngest ever international playerโ€”Stromsgodset's Martin Odegaard.

Vaishali Bhardwajย of Theย Metroย says that the Red Devils could bid for the 15-year-old attacking midfielder who has come to the attention of Europe's biggest teams.

Odegaard also became the youngest player to appear in Norway's top division when he made his debut for his club, earlier this year.

Lars Sivertsenย of the Mirrorย recently wrote about the prodigy, saying he may change the face of football in his home country:

"

There is no telling how good Martin Odegaard can become. He could go on to become an international star, or he could stagnate. A footballer at 15 is simply raw material, not the finished article.

But in a way he has already proven an important point, both for Norway and other small countries: There is no reason why having a small talent pool means you can't develop top class talent, if the kids train enough and with the right guidance.

"

Odegaard is one for the near future but United would be wise to secure him as soon as possible.ย

Danny Welbeck Expected to Sign for Spurs

6 of 9

Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck is expected to join Tottenham Hotspur on-loan for the rest of the season.

Jamie Jacksonย ofย The Guardianย writes that Spurs are now favourites to capture the Mancunian-born player with United prepared to let Welbeck leave after the capture of Radamel Falcao.

Jackson says that Louis van Gaal informed Welbeck that he will not be used as a striker in his system at United, forcing the England international to review his options away from Old Trafford.

United had previously told Welbeck that he could not move to a top six club in England but had a change of heart after the fruition of their move for Falcao, per Jackson.

Nigel De Jong to Old Trafford on Deadline Day?

7 of 9

Manchester United will look to complete a move for Nigel de Jong on transfer deadline day,ย with an ยฃ8 million approach in the pipeline.ย

David Craddockย of Goal.com writes that United will attempt to bring in the 29-year-old midfielder, formerly of Manchester City,ย after the collapse of the proposed Arturo Vidal transfer.

He adds that Red Devils chief executive Ed Woodward first met with De Jong's representatives back in August and talks have since been positive.

De Jong had a successful summer under Louis van Gaal as the Netherlands came third at the World Cup in Brazil.ย

Daley Blind to Be United's Last Summer Transfer?

8 of 9

Manchester United will confirm the purchase ofย Daley Blind, Dutch Footballer of the Year, on Monday.

Highly regardedย Manchester Evening Newsย writerย Stuart Mathiesonย says that the Netherlands midfielder will be United's last signing of the transfer window.

The ยฃ13.8 million capture of the Ajax talent will take Louis van Gaal's spending to ยฃ143 million during the summer, per Mathieson, with the Dutch manager delighted by Blind's arrival:ย โ€œHe can play a lot of positions thatโ€™s why I was very pleased that Ed Woodward got him and I think thatโ€™s also good for Manchester United.โ€

Mathieson says that despite United being linked with Nigel de Jong, the player will not be joining the Red Devils before the transfer window shuts.ย

Tom Cleverley Move to Aston Villa Threatened

9 of 9

Tom Cleverley's proposed ยฃ8 million transfer from Manchester United to Aston Villa is on the verge of collapsing due to the player's wage demands.

John Percyย ofย The Telegraphย says that the midfielder wants ยฃ60,000 a weekโ€”a figure the Villa Park club will not contemplate.ย

Percy writes that Hull were also interested in the England international but have now ended their pursuit.ย

Villa boss Paul Lambert confirmed late on Sunday that no deal has been struck for Cleverley as things stand, per Percy:ย โ€œHeโ€™s still a Manchester United player and nothing has moved forward on that one at the moment.โ€ย
