Match of the Night: No. 7 Eugenie Bouchard vs. No. 30 Barbora Zahlavova Strycova

There are several marquee matchups on the evening's docket, but few have the star power and the intrigue that the battle between No. 7 seed Eugenie Bouchard and No. 30 seed Barbora Zahlavova Strycova will have under the lights of Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Bouchard has been great in 2014. She advanced to the semifinals in both the Australian Open and the French Open but found the most success when she reached the finals at Wimbledon earlier this season.

The Live Tennis Twitter feed talked about Bouchard’s recent success:

After rolling through Olga Govortsova in the first round, 6-2, 6-1, Bouchard faced stiff competition with Sorana Cirstea in the second round. While she was able to pull of the 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4 victory, it was a more difficult matchup than most expected.

The official Twitter of the U.S. Open shared footage of Bouchard’s second-round win:

The key for Bouchard will be keeping her composure in Round 3 when she squares off against the always-tough Zahlavova Strycova. The Czech player has been around the tour for years and understands what it takes to upset a higher-ranked opponent.

Zahlavova Strycova beat Ashleigh Barty (6-1, 6-3) and Monica Niculescu (4-6, 6-4, 6-2) in the first two rounds, respectively, and has built momentum heading into her meeting with her Canadian challenger.

Both women have power with their serve, but Bouchard is the taller player and can create more speed on her shots. The No. 7 seed can also cover more ground with her length and quickness, and that should ultimately be enough to earn the victory.

While there is no doubt that Zahlavova Strycova earned her way into the third round, Bouchard is the better overall player and should be able to advance.

Predicted Winner: Bouchard defeats Zahlavova Strycova, 6-4, 6-3
