Liverpool Preseason: Can You Name The Starting Lineup Against St. Gallen?

Jamie WardJul 14, 2009

Phone Sky and tell them to put the sports package back on and inform your girlfriend there will be a lot less quality time together, because football is coming home.

Preseason couldn't come soon enough as we are eager to see if Liverpool can continue its impressive momentum from last season, right through in to the new campaign.

The 2008-09 season provided us with a great many highs, but it also brought with it the despair of going so close to winning the league title.

Liverpool are finally maturing as a complete football unit. The team under Rafa has always been built on a solid foundation, with Jamie Carragher and Sami Hyypia pushed all the way by the future Liverpool pairing of Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel.

That impressive defensive lineup has already been added to this summer with the arrival of Glen Johnson. The new signing will hopefully address the issue of extra depth and provide that something special going forward from the fullback position.

Liverpool's frontmen certainly stepped up last season as the team finished as the league's top scorer.

But with the departure of Robbie Keane in January, many supporters believe—despite an amazing goal-fest after Keane's exit—that Rafa needs to bring in another striker as backup to Fernando Torres.

However, with the arrival of more players to Anfield looking unlikely at the moment; will this be the time our reserve players will shine?

The Liverpool second-string has some promising future starlets in the making, with both the club and supporters alike in hope of them coming of age.

This is a time when Liverpool need both cash injections from the sale of some reserve players, and the introduction of others with quality into the first team.

Players like Emiliano Insua, Nabil El Zhar, Steven Darby, and Jay Spearing, have already shown they have the ability to provide competition for places on the pitch.

Added to that are Daniel Pacheco, Krisztian Nemeth, San Jose Dominguez, and Adam Hammill all who are expected to come-of-age very soon.

With so much talent already in the first team and a very promising group of youngsters coming through the ranks, it's going to be difficult guessing what the starting lineup might be against St. Gallen.

Can you pick from the squad list and name the starting eleven players that will take to the pitch in Switzerland?

If you are a Sky or XXL Virgin customer you can now watch the whole of Liverpool's preseason live and FREE on the club's very own TV channel. Setanta has gone into administration so Liverpoolfc.tv is now being broadcast for free until the start of the new season.
