WWE's Lighter Side: A Look at a Few of Our Most Loved Wrestlers
Hello, everyone. As always, I would like to thank you for spending a few moments with me today.
I decided to dust one of my unpublished reads from the vault today. I hope that you enjoy it.
Throughout the years in the WWE we have had many different kinds of wrestlers. We have had our giants, bad Asses, technical masters.
While all of these grapplers have been fun to watch over time. I wanted to spend a few minutes on some of the grapplers that have made me laugh. These wrestlers have given me just as many fond memories as the rest.
I have put together a small list of wrestlers that have helped Raw and Smackdown in general, become a more entertaining show. A few of them were also very good in the ring, but I wanted to focus on the comedic side of their characters.
So without any further ado, I give you my favorite entertainers in the history of the WWE.
The Fabulous Moolah and Mae Young
In the golden age, these two were great female grapplers that would set the standards for many years to come. Over that period of time, Moolah and Young became an inseparable pair.
My fondest memories of them though would come much later in their lives. In the late 90s, these two would make their return to the WWE. More often than not there appearances on TV came in the form of comedy.
Whether it was Mae Young, entering a beauty contest with the divas or giving birth to a hand. These two would always be up to some mischief during the show.
One of my funniest gut busting moments with them was when Mae Young decided to show the world her "Puppies." We never did get to see them thank god, but listening to the king during the disrobing was priceless.
They have sacrificed their bodies and dignity all for the sake of the WWE fans. For that reason alone I have the utmost respect for them.
Crash Holly
Crash Holly was the supposed cousin of Hardcore Holly. They even formed a tag team together at one time. Crash was a very good worker who always gave 100 percent in the ring.
Crash was also only about 5 feet tall who spoke like he was 6 foot 5. He would often be in the back starting trouble with someone. This often led to a squash match in which poor Crash would be left on his back.
What made him special to me was his gift to gab on the stick. He spoke like an uneducated redneck with a chip on his shoulder. It was plain to see he had a major Napoleon complex.
Sometimes he would get so annoying that even his own "cousin" Hardcore holly, would have to give him a beat down. After the beat down it would often lead into an entertaining scrimmage between him and Hardcore.
Some of my favorite moments with crash though, were with his other supposed cousin Molly Holly. These two played the perfect dumb witted hicks. When they would put them together it would be comedic genius.
Goldust
One of the most entertaining wrestlers without a doubt has to be Goldust. He has been the butt of many jokes now for over a decade. He would play his homoerotic gimmick down to a T often freaking out his fellow wrestlers.
He is also a very accomplished grappler, but most people remember him most for his backstage segments and in-ring antics. He also is the only wrestler that I know of whose finishing move is a kick to the nuts.
Over the years, he has been teamed up with many partners. One of the funnier times was when he was teamed up with Booker T. These two would go on to be the highlight of Raw when they were together.
I would have to say one of my funniest Goldust moments ever was when he played Santa Clause. He was going around giving out Christmas gifts to everyone. Well he would run into Christian backstage.
What kind of gift did he have in store for the king of the peeps? Why only the best gift ever, he gave Christian a can of new and improved Ass cream. You have to be a Jerichoholic to get the joke.
Kurt Angle
We all know that Kurt Angle is a beast in the ring. We also know that he will probably go down as one of the best ever in wrestling. What some may not know though is how funny he was.
In Angle's WWE days he would give us some really funny moments in TV. He used to cut these goofy heel promos that would have me rolling. He would go on to have some classic feuds with the rock and stone cold.
These feuds would often leave some classic WWE moments. One of the clips they like to show often is when Angle would come in with the milk truck, and douse the ring with milk.
Another classic segment with Angle was when he was feuding with Stone Cold. This is after the whole “What” thing started after Stone Cold spoke. Well they were back stage and were arguing with each other.
After every word Angle would speak he would hear the crowd go “what”. It got so loud and went on for so long, that both almost broke kayfabe.
Whether he was trying to act like a rapper, put the moves on Stephanie, or just chilling with Edge and Christian. He would always find a way to put a smile on this fan's face.
It is moments like those that make me miss angle more than anything else.
Eugene
I know there are many who probably found his character tasteless and offensive. I could certainly understand why someone would. I will be honest with all of you though, I found him to be very funny.
Not in a “ha ha look at the retard" funny, it was more like a "goofy antics" funny, if that makes any sense. I have to give credit where it is due, it is said by many that the hardest role to play is a handicapped person.
Well, the role was pulled off well with Eugene.
He was not only able to make me laugh, whether it was Eugene using another wrestler's move during a match or him having a skit with his Uncle Eric Bischoff. He always managed to get a chuckle out of me.
He also made you respect the possibilities of a handicapped person in and out of the ring.
He didn’t last too long in the WWE. I’m not sure if it was because too many people were offended or because his character just got stale. What can I say, Eugene grew on me, and he brought innocence to the WWE that we rarely saw.
I was a little sad when he left the WWE.
Santino Marella
This goofy Italian guy broke into the WWE a few years ago. If I'm not mistaken he was a fan that would take an open challenge and win the IC title. I didn’t think much of his character at first.
Over time though, he has become one of my favorite wrestlers. How can you not root for the guy? His goofy promos that he cuts sometimes have me in stitches.
He has been by far the MVP of Raw. He has given the show the comedy relief it desperately needed. His latest antics with Vickie Guerrero were historical.
Where he will be five years from now, it is kind of hard to say, a lot of times comedy acts grow stale. I will just enjoy watching him for now and hope they keep him supplied with fresh material.
Well that’s about it for me today. I hope you enjoyed my ratings, I know sometimes I tend to drag things on.
As always, have a safe and blessed day.
