Mayweather vs. Maidana 2 Fight Time: Rematch Preview and PPV Coverage Info

Tim KeeneySep 13, 2014

All the speculation, debate and predictions can finally come to an end. It's time for the rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana.

It's just the second time in his career that Mayweather has fought in a rematch, but there's little question that El Chino deserves the opportunity.

In May, the Argentine, who was given next to no chance, shot out of his corner like a rocket, harassing Mayweather with huge overhand rights, pinning him up against the ropes and firing off a relentless barrage of punches in his quest for a knockout blow.

He eventually wore down, and Money eventually adjusted, but faring so well against the undefeated pound-for-pound champ was clearly enough to build the challenger's confidence:

Them be fightin' words. Let's take a look at everything you need to know about what should be a scintillating rematch.

Where: MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas

Fight Date: Saturday, September 13, 2014

PPV Schedule: PPV card starts at 8 p.m. ET.

PPV Viewing Info: Showtime PPV, check here for details

Odds: Floyd Mayweather (1-8), Marcos Maidana (5-1), per OddsShark.com

If you want to simplify it, it's Maidana's power and aggression versus Mayweather's speed and defense.

Of Maidana's 35 wins, 31 have come via knockout. The most recent victory that went to a decision was against Adrien Broner, a fight Maidana thoroughly dominated, knocking the American to the canvas twice.

El Chino packs a serious punch, and he isn't afraid to fire away at a relentless pace. In the first fight between these two, he threw a never-ending 858 punches and landed 221, the most against Mayweather in his 37 fights tracked by CompuBox

Of course, with such a style, fatigue is always a factor, as it was in May. Maidana threw 471 punches in the first six rounds against Money but just 387 in the last six, a decrease of 14 per round.

On the other side of the ring, Mayweather is confident that his brand of boxing will once again win out, via MLive.com's David Mayo:

"

What I can do, what makes me a little different than any other fighter, is I'm well-rounded and very versatile, as far as I can box, I can counterpunch, I can bang, I can do a little bit of everything. That's why I'm at the pinnacle in the sport right now. Can he switch up anything? I don't really think so. I mean, that's just my gut feeling.

"

Mayweather simply needs to keep his distance. He is faster, quicker and has a three-inch reach advantage. When Maidana was able to corner him into the ropes, he was never in too much trouble but certainly looked out of sorts at times, which is unusual for him.

When he created separation, it was devastating for Maidana, who continued to throw punches like they were going out of style but started landing fewer and fewer. As that happened, Mayweather was able to start landing counterpunches and lightning-quick right hands.

It's game over—no matter the opponentat that point.

Ultimately, this is going to come down to which fighter can control the pace and establish his own preferred style.

Maidana proved to be one of the very few challengers able to do just that against Mayweather, but frustrating one of the best defensive fighters of all time—and keeping it up for 12 rounds—is a task as tall as Kilimanjaro.

Mayweather will win. But don't be surprised if the rematch is every bit as thrilling as the original.
