What Should Arsenal Do with Emmanuel Adebayor's £20 Million?

Callum D'SouzaJul 13, 2009

Reports now suggest that Arsenal and Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor is off to Manchester City for £20 million. This news will place a smile on most of the Arsenal fans. Arsenal, who are in great need of cash in order to boost their midfield and attack, now have a suitable amount for Arsene Wenger to start shopping.

So what should Arsenal do with the £20 million.

First things first, find a quality defensive midfielder.

Arsenal have what many consider as the best central midfielder in the game, Cesc Fabregas and two sensational wingers in Russian Andrei Asharvin and Frenchmen Samir Nasri. Now all the Arsenal midfield need is a strong, solid central defensive midfielder who can handle the defensive duties and take some pressure of Cesc Fabregas.

However, Arsenal do still have the presence of Denilson, Abou Diaby, and Alexandre Song. Denilson and Diaby both prefer the attacking role to the defensive role and many believe Song is a center half.

With Felipe Melo likely to sign with Juventus, Arsenal now have the likes of

1.Lorik Cana-OlympiqueMarseille

2.Blaise Matuidi-Saint Etienne

3.Ever Banega-Valencia

4.Gohkan Inler-Udinese

5.Miquel Veloso-Sporting Lisbon

6.Xabi Alonso-Liverpool

7.Jeremy Toulalan-Olmypique Lyon

8.Frank Ribery-Bayern Munich

All would fit into to the Arsenal style nicely and all are in Arsenal price range, plus with Arsene Wenger willing to trade Philippe Senderos and Emmanuel Eboue, Arsenal could be able to pull of a deal.

Adebayor's presence will also need to be replaced with a talented striker. The lanky Togolese forward gave Arsenal great aerial threat as well as speed and power on the ground.

Robin van Persie will no doubt be come Arsenal's main striker but due to his creativity he is better off in the second striker role. This means Nicklas Bendtner will need to step up as the physical striker.

With David Villa and Edin Dzenko both unlikely to join Arsenal. The Gunners should look to

1.Marouane Chamakh-Bordeaux

2.Bafétimbi Gomis-AS Saint-Étienne

3.Hatem Ben Arfa-Olympique Marseille

4.Sebastian Giovinco-Juventus

5.Tuncay Şanli-Middlesbrough

6.Obafemi Martins-Newcastle United

Arsenal must ensure they spend this money wisely, as I am sure Arsene Wenger does not want a repeat of last year.
