Mayweather vs. Maidana 2 Fight: PPV Schedule, Odds and Weigh-in Live Stream

Tim KeeneySep 12, 2014

Floyd Mayweather vs. Marcos Maidana turned into a wildly entertaining brawl four months ago, and the rematch figures to be more of the same.

"El Chino" came after the champion with everything he had back in May, but "Money" did enough in the final six rounds to pull out the victory via majority decision. Still, Maidana's confidence is beaming, as he clearly thought he won that fight, while Mayweather hasn't done anything to suggest he should be removed from the pedestal of the boxing universe.

It's an undeniably captivating rematch. Let's take a look at everything you need to know.

Maidana is once again a big underdog, but that doesn't mean he's afraid of Mayweather. Not even close.

"He's not as good as people think," the 31-year-old challenger said during an interview on Showtime, via Yahoo Sports' Elias Cepeda. "I was able to pin him to the ropes and land punches, so he's not as difficult or as invincible as people think. He's hittable. You can land on him."

The bruising Argentine has certainly earned the right to say that. According to CompuBox's stats, via Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix, he connected on more punches against Mayweather than any of Money's other opponents (in tracked fights):

He came after Mayweather with a relentless barrage of power punches and had the undefeated pound-for-pound champion stuck on the ropes and looking seriously uncomfortable.

When it came to an end, "El Chino" wasn't able to hand Mayweather his first loss, but he did give the champ just the third mixed-decision victory of his career. And the first two (bouts against Oscar De La Hoya and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez) didn't feel nearly as close as this one.

Still, Mayweather is regarded as one of the best ever for a reason. While Maidana's bull-in-a-china-shop style clearly bothered him, he made adjustments and dominated most of the second half of the fight.

Take a look at CompuBox's punch stats from the final six rounds, via BoxingScene.com:

While one judge ruled the fight a draw, all three were in agreement (58-56, 59-55, 58-56) about the last 18 minutes of the fight.

If that was indeed a sign of Mayweather figuring out his opponent rather than Maidana simply running out of gas after such an active start, then "Money" should have little trouble in the next 12 rounds. Four months of preparation will allow him to build off that successful game plan.

Either way, though, this is a must-watch fight. While the odds may suggest it's a lopsided matchup, we saw in May that doesn't really mean anything. With Maidana's inexorable aggression and Mayweather's other-planetary defense, we have the recipe for a thrilling battle.
