Joe's 411: B/R Pro-Wrestling News (July 12, 2009)

Joe Burgett Jul 12, 2009

Welcome to an all new Joe's 411: B/R Pro-Wrestling News. I have news on Hulk Hogan possibly coming back to wrestling to UFC 100; I know its MMA but there is a wrestling connection. So, lets get started.

Hulk Hogan News

I am getting right to the Hogan news as you can easily tell. Hogan did an interview with the Chicago Tribune. Did you guys know it was Hulk Hogan appreciation day yesterday? Me neither. 400 people paid $99 to attend; I wouldn't pay basically 100 bucks to appreciate the dude, personally.

TOP NEWS

WRESTLING: OCT 02 AEW Dynamite/Rampage Pittsburgh
Monday Night RAW

I mean, while he is easily one of my favorite wrestlers of all time, I can easily watch a match of his on youtube.com to appreciate him.

Anyway, the article from the newspaper focused on that, along with other questions for Hogan. Such as the biggy: Will you wrestle again?

Here is some quotes from Hogan in the article:

When asked about when he would be coming back to wrestle: “About every third person was saying, ‘When are you going to get in the ring again?’ They don’t realize that, even though I look the same way I looked 30 years ago—kind of—my body is pretty beaten up.

"It’s kind of hard to explain to them. The hip replacements, the back surgeries, the elbow surgeries, the shoulder surgeries…I never like to say never, but right now I’m on the rebuild and rewind process."

About the signing itself being challenging for him: “I tried getting through it without letting everyone know I was having a hard time. I’d never had a chair there at an autograph signing before. Now I have a chair in my bathroom so I can brush my teeth.

"When I shave, I shave half my face, lay on the floor for 10 minutes and then shave the other half of my face. I had a hard time walking through the Chicago airport today.

"I stopped one time to sit down and acted like I was doing something. I walked farther and then went into the men’s room. I leaned on the sink to crack my back and pretended I was looking at my face."

About returning to the ring: “It seems to get farther and farther in reach. I just don’t want to exclude it from my thought process. It’s like the one place that, when I’m in there, I’m totally free.”

On the pythons: “They used to be 24 inches when I was 27 years old,” he says. “Now, last time I taped them, they were about 20 inches. That was a couple years ago. I haven’t taped them since. I’m afraid too.”

Now, I am as big of a Hulk fan as you will see. But even I do not want to see Hogan back in the ring again. He can come and talk any day of the week, but wrestling will hurt him and the WWE.

He can't wrestle like he used to, some say he never could, but I personally think he was good. He is older and his body is so beat up that he would further hurt himself by wrestling again.

He mentioned himself that he can barely walk through an airport without having to stop and rest a few times.

I hope his wrestling career is behind him personally. If he comes back as guest host of RAW, I won't be angry. But, if he has another match in the WWE, I will probably be very upset and won't even watch.

First off the match won't be good, because Hogan can't wrestle like he once could and I would basically be watching a guy who is killing himself faster. Talking works for him, and he should stick to that.

Go speak at High Schools and colleges, act in movies, etc. But stay out of the ring Hogan, we as wrestling fans beg of you.

Triple H News

How many people know the cartoon Robot Chicken? It is on Adult Swim aka Cartoon Newtork's late night name change. Apparently Triple H will be part of a sketch in the season 4.5 premiere on Sunday, July 26 at 11:30 p.m. ET.

We will see a sneak preview exclusively on Monday Night Raw this week.

SPOILER ALERT! With Seth Green being the co-executive producer and co-creator of Robot Chicken, he will be hosting Raw this week. Kind of puts all the pieces together.

The Other Rocker!

As we all know, arguably the best tag team of all time was The Rockers. Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty basically took the WWF by storm during their time.

They were showing friction between each other on TV, and during an interview with Brutas "The Barber" Beefcake on the Barber Shop, Michaels shocked the world by superkicking Jannetty and throwing him through a glass window.

Michaels' career took off, while Jannetty's basically ended. There have been a lot of tag teams that broke up, where one member shined brighter than the other. But no one dropped off the map faster than Jannetty.

Now, we will finally find out what happened to him. What happened after the Barber Shop Break Up: The Marty Jannetty Story is being released on DVD soon to show us all the untold story.

This 2 Disc DVD set chronicles the life and career of “The Other Rocker,” documenting his career beginnings, and what happened once HBK took off to the top and Jannetty took off in the opposite direction.

I feel this will do very well with wrestling fans, because it seemed that as popular as Jannetty once was, he seemed to just disappear off the face of the earth.

People want to know what happened to him, especially older wrestling fans who saw them wrestle during their heyday.

The DVD is out wherever DVDs are sold.

UFC 100

For those of you who didn't see last night's UFC 100 PPV, you missed some great fights. Of course the Frank Mir vs. Brock Lesnar fight to unify the two UFC Titles was the main event for the night.

I personally had Mir slated to win myself, but I was wrong, thankfully though.

Lesnar basically made Mir eat his words, and Lesnar's own fist last night. The ground and pound by Lesnar was just too much to stop for Mir. Lesnar won the fight and proved to be the true Heavyweight Champion of the UFC.

While many did not like his promos before and after the fight, I thought it was entertaining. People took it too seriously I think, and it was on PPV so its not like the UFC had anything to worry about with the FCC or anything.

Lesnar did get a talking to from UFC President Dana White after the fight, so Lesnar apologized for a lot of his behavior in the post-fight press conference you can see on UFC.com.

However, he didn't apologize one bit about what he did with the fans, nor should he.

A lot of people took notice of Lesnar last night, and pro wrestlers were no different. Here are some tweets from the TNA and WWE world from last night

Shane Helms: "Mir, what do you think of Pro Wrestlers now after getting your ass handed to you and getting beaten in a completely one-sided fight?"

Matt Hardy: "Yeah, Brock! Reppin' the toughness of "WWE" guys by making Mir & the non-believers eat their words! We popped HUGE 4 your post fight promo!"

Jeremy Borash: "Brock is a strong heel. Take it from yours truly...Minnesotans are tough. Might try some MMA. I could destroy that nerdy Bruce Buffer."

Bobby Lashley: "WWE star Brock Lesnar won by brutal ground and pound!"

Lesnar proved if anything that he belongs in UFC and should be given respect for what he has done and will continue to do. Good job, Lesnar!

ECW Newcomer Hurt

Apparently new ECW Superstar Tyler Reks has been working with a swollen knee that he suffered at a Florida Championship Wrestling live event this past week. He claimed in a tweet that he was rehabbing the injury and hoped to be ready for Monday.

I hope he is ready too, because the knee will really bring him down wrestling wise. He is not like Edge or Matt Hardy, who are injured now. He is not a former World Champion or veteran in the WWE.

He is new and has to show great entertainment and skill every week. If he doesn't, then his WWE career won't progress.

If the injury gets worse, which I hope it won't, then he may be gone from the WWE. Right now it is just swollen, so it is not as bad as it could have been. However, if he by chance lands on it the wrong way, he may have more difficulty with it.

Lets hope he will be 100 percent when he steps back in the ring.

Edge facts

As many WWE fans know by now, WWE Superstar Edge is injured. He recently had surgery on his heel and claimed to be coming back in a WWE.com video.

Before Edge got hurt he was going to take time off after losing the Unified Tag Titles. He was even going to turn face upon return and possibly start a rivalry with Chris Jericho in some way.

Somehow Edge made it through the high impact schedule the WWE put him through. He went through some very tough match-ups and it is a wonder he wasn't injured even worse than he was.

We are talking two Elimination Chamber matches, a Ladder match, Steel Cage, and regular matches. He actually wrestled more matches than anyone in the WWE this year until his injury: 105 times.

That is saying a lot, and it shows how he was in serious need for a break from the WWE. The injury to Edge couldn't have happened at a better time for him, and hopefully he will be fully rested when he comes back.

411 Article to Read

I recently saw an article from a relatively new writer named Danny Keane.

I really liked the article, yet it didn't seem to get a lot of attention. So, the 411 would like you to read it. So take a look, and comment on the dude's article if you can.

That is all for the 411 Today, make sure to come back Tuesday before you play the new NCAA Football 2010 game, which I know most of you will most likely buy or rent then.
