Nicklas Bendtner Welcomed to Wolfsburg by Coach Burning Him

Nicklas Bendtner has finally left Arsenal to join Wolfsburg, but the Dane's arrival has not exactly caught the imagination of Volkswagen Arena boss Dieter Hecking.

Bendtner will wear the No. 3 shirt in Germany on his mother's request, according to the Daily Mail.

Before the deal went through, Hecking was quoted on Thursday saying: "We dared to touch the top shelf of players. It’s empty now though, so we need to look a bit further down."

They had been linked to some more illustrious names, such as Romelu Lukaku and Alvaro Morata, per Chris Wright of ESPN FC. However, they were unable to secure any of those deals.

Ouch.

Still, Hecking was more complimentary on Friday as Bendtner was unveiled, according to the Daily Mail:

"

We want to play a good role in all three competitions this season, and to do this we need players who already know what this kind of challenge is all about.

Nicklas embodies precisely the kind of striker we were looking for. He fits the profile and is going to strengthen our squad.

"

It recalls the welcome Bendtner got when he went on loan to Juventus a couple of seasons ago.

"Clearly he isn't the top player we wanted, but we needed reinforcements," Juventus chief Giuseppe Marotta was quoted as saying at the time.
